Hyundai’s new luxury sub-brand will spawn high-performance N models.
The Genesis G90, along with Hyundai’s new Genesis luxury brand, debuted at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show, though it appears that Genesis won’t simply focus on luxury. Speaking to Car Advice, the Korean automaker’s head of vehicle test and high performance development, Albert Biermann, said that the Genesis brand will build N performance vehicles that are the “full package – real racetrack-going high performance cars.”
Hyundai first introduced the N sub-brand late last year, promising to deliver exciting performance vehicles to its lineup.
That means Genesis won’t just be looking to compete with the luxury sedans of the world, but will also have its sights aimed at cars like the BMW M3 and Audi S4. Biermann indicated that it will be multiple models in the Genesis lineup that will get N variants, saying that the company has a “nice roadmap for the next five years working [for N] so there will be Genesis cars included.”
Biermann previously worked for BMW’s M division, serving as the vice president of engineering, so he knows a thing or two about luxury high-performance models.
