Top 10 Most Anticipated 2016 Detroit Auto Show Debuts

The New Year is upon us and that means the 2016 Detroit Auto Show is right around the corner.

Each year, the North American International Auto Show plays host to numerous worldwide debuts, with last year’s show stunning the crowd with the new Ford GT, Shelby GT350R and production Acura NSX, to name a few. There will certainly be some surprises at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show, but here are‘s top 10 most anticipated debuts that have been confirmed to make a public appearance from January 11-24, 2016.

Acura Precision Concept

Now that the Acura NSX is heading to production, the Japanese automaker is turning its attention to the rest of its lineup. To get us excited, Acura has released a teaser image of its Precision Concept that will “help set the direction for future Acura design; in particular, the next generation of performance-luxury sedans.” In other words, we will get a sneak preview of Acura’s future design language for its four-door models.

Some would argue that BMW has missed a beat when it comes to creating the world’s “ultimate driving machines,” but it appears the German automaker is returning to true form with the new BMW M2. Sporting aggressive styling and a newly developed 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine with 365 horsepower and 343 pound-feet of torque, we wouldn’t be surprised if it instantly becomes a classic and a favorite among sports car enthusiasts worldwide.

Chrysler Town & Country Minivan

Seeing the next-generation Chrysler Town & Country in the flesh will be like petting a panda at Detroit. Both are endangered species, but we’re excited to see which direction the American automaker takes for its minivan. Over the recent years, crossovers and SUVs have taken over the segment, as shoppers ditch the mundane and boring minivan shape for something sportier and more exciting to drive.

Genesis G90

Hyundai is spinning off its luxury models to create a new sub-brand called Genesis. The first model will be the G90 that has already debuted overseas as the EQ900. This will be the first time we’ve seen the Genesis G90 on U.S. soil in production form. The sedan will replace the existing Equus. Does Hyundai really have what it takes to compete in the luxury segment? Considering we named the Hyundai Genesis sedan our 2015 Car of the Year, you can bet we will keep a close eye on the new sub-brand.

Henrik Fisker The Force 1

It’s another creation from Henrik Fisker, who has moved on from his experiment in producing luxury plug-in hybrid vehicles. Since the Fisker brand is moving on without him at the helm, he is using his talents of designing limited production vehicles such as the Galpin Fisker Rocket elsewhere. The Force 1 is his next creation and it’s getting plenty of attention since it has been reported that Aston Martin is trying to stop him from debuting it at Detroit this year. Consider us intrigued.

Honda Ridgeline

The Honda Ridgeline has always been an interesting model in the pickup truck segment and the next-generation model looks to build on its success. Late last year, the Japanese automaker previewed the truck’s styling with the Ridgeline Baja Race Truck that went on to claim a victory in the Baja 1000. The company has offered the above teaser as a preview, and the new truck is expected to be powered by a 3.5-liter V6. After its debut in Detroit, Honda will promote the Ridgeline in its Super Bowl commercial before it heads to dealerships in the first half of 2016.

Infiniti Q60 Coupe

Although we have already seen the Infiniti Q60 coupe in production form thanks to spy photographers, we’re excited to see it in the flesh, especially now that the Japanese luxury automaker has shown off a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine packing 400 hp in the 2016 Infiniti Q50 sedan. For those looking at the entry-level Q60, expect a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine from Mercedes with around 200 hp.

Lexus LC

After making its debut in late 2012 as the Lexus LF-LC Blue Concept, the production LC500 will bow at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show. Expect the luxury sports coupe to be powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine with around 467 hp, the same powerplant currently found in the Lexus RC F and GS F models. That leaves room for a hotter LC F model that is rumored to have a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with around 600 hp. Yeah, it’s a bit hard not to be excited for the Lexus LC.

Porsche 911 Turbo

Porsche has already spilled the details on its newest 911 Turbo model that will be priced from $160,195, but this will be however the first time we get to see it in the flesh, where we will have a hard time not drooling over the 3.8-liter twin-turbo six-cylinder engine with 540 hp. Oh wait, then there’s the Porsche 911 Turbo S with 580 hp. What will we do?

Volvo S90

Last but not least, Volvo is continuing its path to reviving the brand and becoming a contender in the luxury market. With the all-new XC90 already paving the way for the Swedish automaker, Volvo will deliver the new S90 sedan in the flesh at Detroit. As another model that has already been unveiled, we will be sure to get up close and personal to see if Volvo truly has what it takes to take on Germany’s best in a crowded luxury sedan market.

Stay tuned for our live coverage of the Detroit Auto Show, as we’ll be on the show floor bringing you the latest news.

I’m most excited to see the Town & Country as well as the Ridgeline, real vehicles for real people.

  • co1003 .

Real people don’t drive vans and little trucks…

  • MrOzMan

    What are you, 5?

  • co1003 .

No, but I am not 50 either 😉

  • MrOzMan

Yeah I can tell you are nowhere near 50. By the way, Its the late 20’s-early 40’s people who buy minivans. They are real people buddy. I’m a truck guy myself, but nothing wrong with a minivan for those who need one.

  • co1003 .

First of all, I am not your buddy.
I am in my 40s and have never had the urge to buy a mini van, nor do I know anyone who has ever owned one.
This is the 2016 Detroit auto show. I have personally attended 3. People go to see new innovations and technology advancements.
I can promise you there will not be a crowd around the mini van.

  • MrOzMan

I used the term “buddy” condescendingly, so yes, I am well aware we are not buddies in a literal sense. I want to congratulate you on being a former patron at an auto show. That certainly gives you credibility when you make comments like “Real people don’t drive minivans.” I’m sure the ‘fake’ people attended the show for reasons other than your own. I would go look at other stuff, but I know in this industry, product launches are done at auto shows. You don’t have to like it, it’s just how it is.

  • co1003 .

Did you read the original quote? I am guessing not or you would have understood why I commented the way I did.
Sometimes it’s just best to mind you’re business when someone isn’t talking to you;)

  • MrOzMan

Awww you poor butthurt baby. There there.

  • co1003 .

No butt hurt here. I can afford nicer vehicles. Hope you enjoy your van;)

  • co1003 .

    Can you see the irony?
    Welcome to the Internet;)

  • Shiratori1

Very interested in Acura Precision Concept. Hopefully it will be an indication that Honda is serious about moving Acura up to tier 1 luxury.

  • Harry_Wild

Acura needs to get rid of the beak front grill first!

  • Obamalies

One American car, and its a minivan?

  • azmoviegoer

I love the Lexus LF LC Blue Concept. I hope the LC500 stays very close to the original design and that it debuts at Detroit in that same stunning shade of blue!
