All future BMW plug-in hybrids will feature “iPerformance” branding.
The new moniker will be in use starting in July 2016 and will be seen first on the plug-in hybrid variants of the new BMW 7 Series like the BMW 740e iPerformance. According to the German automaker, the new model designation “provides a visible indicator of the transfer of technology from BMW i to the BMW core brand.” That includes the transfer of technical expertise on electric motors, battery cells and electronic control systems.
Visually, the iPerformance models will feature the BMW i logo on the front fenders along with BMW i-style blue elements in the kidney grille and wheel hubs. There will also be an eDrive logo located on the C-pillar. Best of all, customers can take advantage of the BMW i 360° ELECTRIC range of products and services, including the BMW i Wallbox.
BMW will introduce the iPerformance model designation at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show with the BMW 740e iPerformance. Joining it in Switzerland is the world premiere of the new BMW M760Li xDrive, BMW M2 and the BMW i8 Protonic Red Edition.
AutoGuide.com will be covering the 2016 Geneva Motor Show live, so check back early March for full coverage.
