Couple Takes Tesla Model S and Model X Drag Racing

Tesla has really changed the misconception that electric vehicles are slow.

With the introduction of Ludicrous Mode in both the Model S sedan and Model X crossover, it was only a matter of time before both of these vehicle hit the drag strip at the same time. One husband and wife couple in Florida did just that, taking both all-electric vehicles to Palm Beach International Raceway to put them to the test. Both Tesla models are P90D variants equipped Ludicrous Mode, and to make things even more entertaining, the wife has never been on a drag strip before.

Both vehicles were fully charged before hitting the track and the Model S had previously run a best time of 11.24 @ 118.5 mph. One of the main reasons for the trip was to see how much the extra 600 pounds on the Model X (compared to the Model S) would affect its quarter-mile time.

Surprisingly, the answer is not much. The Model X P90D turned in a best time of 11.61 @ 116 mph and has unofficially set a new world record for the quickest production CUV/SUV according to DragTimes. Looking at VBOX data, the Model X P90D went zero-to-60 mph in just 3.1 seconds and zero-to-100 mph in 7.9 seconds.

The Model X consistently turned in 11.6x times while the Model S ran 11.3 to 11.5. Watch a couple videos below of the Model S and Model X running down the quarter mile.
