Cadillac Plotting $300K Bentley-Fighting SUV

Cadillac is planning two models that will cost between $250,000 and $300,000.

According to a report from GM Inside News, the American automaker is looking into developing an ultra-luxury SUV and sedan, both of which will compete with the likes of Bentley and Rolls-Royce.

The new SUV model would sit above the Escalade (rumored to soon be called the XT8), directly targeting the Bentley Bentayga, Rolls-Royce Cullinan, Lamborghini Urus, Maserati Levante and Aston Martin DBX. Expected to sport the XT9 nameplate, it will serve as Cadillac’s halo SUV model with pricing starting around $250,000.

Considering the Cadillac XT8 isn’t hitting the market until 2020 at the earliest, don’t expect to see the XT9 make its debut until around 2027.

Currently the CT6 is the American automaker’s flagship sedan, but there’s a CT8 in the works that will serve as a Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7 Series fighter. Planning to make its debut around 2029 will be the CT9, sporting a price tag around $300,000 aimed to compete with high-end luxury sedans like those from Rolls-Royce.

Gosh, kill me if Cadillac drops the Escalade nameplate. Hate this new naming strategy.

They can’t kill the Escalade nameplate. Just like Lincoln with the Navigator, it has far too much name recognition.
