Ford is testing a new version of the Mustang that will sit between the GT and Shelby GT350 models.
The Mach 1 model will be reborn in 2017 as a 2018 model, packing a quad exhaust, a beefier rear axle and additional aerodynamics enhancements like a front splitter. A boost in power is likely, though the exact amount is unknown. Last time Ford built a Mustang Mach 1 in 2003 and 2004, it had a 30 horsepower upgrade over the GT.
For the 2018 model year, the car is expected to get a revised front fascia and a new 10-speed automatic transmission, both of which should be present on the Mach 1.
Ford is known for offering special edition Mustangs, with the previous generation car bringing back the Boss 302 model. If it’s like that car, expect a one to two year production run for the Mach 1 before it’s discontinued.
