Aston Martin is reportedly planning a new race-inspired version of the Vantage that will be known as the GT8.
According to Autocar, the British car builder has sent invitations to select customers inviting them to attend the unveiling of this new Porsche 911 GT3 competitor. In the invitation was a teaser of the outline of the car which included a large front splitter and rear wing.
No powertrain details are known yet, but the car’s name likely gives away the cylinder count. While the Vantage GT12 (seen above) used a 592-horsepower 6.0-liter V12, the GT8 will likely use the brand’s V8. The same lightweight carbon fiber body from the V12 version of the car will be used with the GT8, while further weight savings will be found in stripping out the interior. Autocar says that this may the lightest street-legal Vantage ever.
Only 150 units of the new Vantage GT8 are expected to be built, though that is 50 more than the GT12. Aston has said that it wants to build two limited-edition vehicles every year, and the GT8 would be the first special edition of 2016, leaving the second a mystery for now.
