Apple CarPlay integration for certain 2015-2016 Hyundai Sonata sedans has been delayed again.
The Korean automaker first promised to add Apple CarPlay to eligible 2015 Hyundai Sonata sedans in April 2014, but it has now said it will make an announcement when properly equipped 2015 and 2016 Sonatas will receive the update. Previously, Hyundai said that 2015 Sonata owners would have to pay to get the upgrade to CarPlay but that is no longer the case. “Hyundai will also have an announcement in the near future related to CarPlay support for existing 2015 Sonatas with navigation, and 2016 Sonatas with Display Audio or navigation,” it said in a press release. “These updates require a specific version of the on-board navigation map and Hyundai is developing a solution, which will provide both the map update and CarPlay support at no additional cost.
CarPlay support for 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid models will also come at a later date.
Both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available on the 2016 Sonata’s seven-inch Display Audio touchscreen and eight-inch navigation systems. The automaker plans to add the feature across its product line as 2017 models go on sale.
