NHTSA is Trolling People Who Text and Drive on Twitter and It’s Great

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has taken to Twitter to try to stop folks from texting and driving.

The organization has been running a Twitter campaign that calls out users who admit to texting and driving on the social media platform. Many tweet about texting and driving in a flippant way and NHTSA counters by reminding them that distracted driving has serious consequences.

According to NHTSA, 10 percent of drivers between the ages of 15 and 19 involved in fatal crashes reported using their phone at the time of the crash in 2014, while 30 percent of drivers in their 20s say they were using their phone before a fatal crash.

NHTSA also says that at any given moment, there are 660,000 drivers using their cell phones behind the wheel in the U.S.
