Volkswagen Recalls 91K Passat Sedans Over Short Circuits

Volkswagen has announced a recall for 91,000 Passat sedans in the U.S.

The issue is improperly assembled wire seals on underbody sensor connectors, which can lead to water intrusion and a short circuit. In this event, a short circuit could lead to a fire.

Only Passat TDIs built between 2012 and 2014 are affected.  Volkswagen says that vehicles in markets outside the U.S. are not affected. No injuries have been reported as a result of this recall.

A timeline for when the recall will begin was not disclosed.

Volkswagen, which is currently embattled with the diesel emissions scandal, has had a few unrelated recalls in the last month, the first for VW Touaregs and Porsche Cayennes with faulty pedal mechanisms and the second for stalling e-Golfs.
