Volvo is previewing how its Lounge Console could look in the Volvo S90 Excellence.
Called the Volvo S90 Excellence Interior Concept, the Swedish automaker considers it a unique piece of art, adding the most comfortable seating and convenience of a center control panel to the rear of the cabin. The concept made its debut in China, where many luxury buyers prefer chauffeur-driven cars.
According to Volvo, the panel controls features such as the heated and cooled cup holder, the sound system, massage function and the large multimedia screen. In addition, the rear armrest houses a refrigeration unit and comes complete with a pair of hand-cut crystal glasses from Swedish glassmaker Orrefors.
Up front, the passenger seat has been removed to give unrestricted forward visibility and a sense of space and light. “It has an immediate and extremely calming effect,” said Robin Page, vice president interior design at Volvo Cars. “We had such positive feedback with our original Lounge Console Concept in the XC90 that we wanted to take it a step closer to reality in an S90 Excellence interior. With this interior we wanted to create a piece of art, a sculpture. We’ve taken many of the original concepts and made them come to life.”
The Lounge Console Concept in the Volvo S90 Excellence also provides three comfortable alternatives, including a mobile working station that combines a fold-out work table and a large screen for checking emails or video conferencing. Passengers can also switch to a pure entertainment mode to watch their favorite Netflix shows, while a pure relaxation mode reclines the seat, allowing the passenger to take a cold drink from the fridge and relax their feet on the heated foot support.
