The new Lincoln MKX has scored top safety marks from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
A rating of Top Safety Pick Plus has been assigned following the MKX’s crash tests, which includes the tough small overlap test.
While the previous version of the SUV already scored good in all crash test categories, it was never run though the small overlap test which was introduced in 2012. The MKX managed to ace the test, controlling dummy movement well with the chance of injury rated low.

To earn the extra ‘Plus’ moniker, the vehicle needs to score at least ‘advanced’ or ‘superior’ in front crash prevention. The MKX managed to avoid an imminent collision by itself at both 12 mph and 25 mph, the two tests that are run to determine the effectiveness of the crash prevention.
