Poll: Which One of BMW’s Hommage Concepts is Your Favorite?

BMW has a rich history and its Hommage concepts are meant to, well, pay homage to the brand’s most epic cars from the past.

Often controversial and always a bit crazy, BMW’s Hommage concepts showcase how the German automaker interprets its iconic cars for modern times. Which one is your favorite? Read about the concepts below and vote in our poll at the bottom.

BMW M1 Hommage Concept

Just by taking a quick glance at this concept, you can see how it inspired the design of the BMW i8. The M1 Hommage Concept debuted in 2008 as a spiritual successor to the legendary M1, BMW’s first supercar. The M1 is often considered one of the best mid-engined supercars ever made. This concept was powered by a mid-mounted 3.5-liter straight-six and when it was revealed, the internet went crazy and showed that people were really impressed by what BMW designers were capable of.

BMW 2002 Hommage Concept

The original BMW 2002 turbo is my personal favourite BMW. This 2002 Hommage concept was just unveiled last week at the swanky Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este and pays tribute to the 2002 Turbo from the 1960s and ’70s, which is considered the car that really set BMW’s sporting reputation in motion. The car was light, had a simple, effective design and had fantastic handling and driving dynamics.

Shown here with a modern interpretation of the iconic shark nose, the concept looks much meaner than the original in a blue/grey paint job and M details. There are no specs on this concept, but it’s pretty safe to say it’s turbocharged.

BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage-2

BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage Concept

When this concept first debuted with a yellow/gold paint job, many BMW fans didn’t like the polarizing design. It was compared to a German catfish. Luckily, BMW unveiled another version of this concept with a new M paint job and racing livery and the reception was much better. This aggressive, race-bred concept pays tribute to the 1970s BMW CSL Coupe. CSL stands for Coupé Sport Leichtbau (which means coupé, sport, lightweight in English), and this concept was built for chasing track times.

BMW 328 Hommage

BMW 328 Hommage Concept

Paying tribute to the BMWs from the brand’s successful race cars from the 1930s, the BMW 328 Hommage concept debuted in 2011. The original 328 set records at the gruelling Mille Miglia and this concept tried to keep the magic alive with a lightweight construction and plenty of retro details.
