Volkswagen will build its upcoming seven-seat midsize SUV in the U.S. and the brand is giving us a hint as to what it will look like.
Full-scale production will start later this year at Volkswagen’s Chattanooga, TN facility. The model seen in the photo is actually the first full body built for the SUV which was used to properly calibrate and test all the plant’s equipment.
Previous spy photos along with the 2013 VW CrossBlue Concept have already given us a fair idea of what the SUV will look like, while from this photo the only real detail discerned are the new styling lines that run through the hood.
Volkswagen’s new SUV will ride on a stretched version of the MQB scalable platform and will compete with the Ford Explorer, Chevy Traverse and the Toyota Highlander. It is the first of a number of new crossovers and SUVs coming from the German brand, which is trying to become more of a mainstream player in the U.S. market.
