Top Gear USA Cancelled

Top Gear USA Cancelled

Top Gear USA has been cancelled, at least for now.

The announcement came from Rutledge Wood, one of the show’s three hosts. “I’m very sad to say, but Tuesday night’s TopGear on History is the last TG US that we have shot for you,” Wood wrote on Instagram. “I’m not saying Top Gear USA is done, but it’s done for the immediate future on History.” Top Gear U.S.A. was broadcast on the History Channel.

Along with co-hosts Tanner Foust and Adam Ferrera, Wood says that they plan to keep the show alive, although he is not sure where exactly it would be shown. “The three of us will stick together and hope to bring you much more Top Gear USA, albeit it somewhere else it appears,” wrote Wood.

Top Gear started in England on the BBC before being reproduced in other countries like the U.S, France and South Korea.

I’m very sad to say, but Tuesday night’s #TopGear on @History is the last TG US that we have shot for you. I’m not saying Top Gear USA is done, but it’s done for the immediate future on @History . I remember the day that I got the phone call to ask if I’d be interested in talking to one of the producers about possibly being one of the hosts of the US’s version of the world’s most iconic car show. It’s been an amazing ride for sure, and although I don’t think the show is done, it appears that it’s done with our friends at History, and we’re incredibly grateful for being a part of the A&E Networks family. I have had so much fun with Tanner and Adam, they really are like brothers to me. We’ve traveled this amazing country and to some of the coolest places on earth together, and even in the hardest moments, it’s been a total dream come true. The three of us will stick together and hope to bring you much more Top Gear USA, albeit it somewhere else it appears. To the FANS- we cannot say enough how much we truly appreciate each and every one of you. You have always been there for us in great numbers, and we really do love you all. You are the reason shows like ours exist, and you’re also the reason we’ve been so lucky to do this show for so long together. We never dreamed how many families would sit and watch our show and laugh together. We never knew how many couples would sit and watch three goofballs go out and try to make each other laugh. And yet, you all watched…and you told other people and shared in the joy. To everyone who worked on TGUS- thank you. For everything. You’re our family and you’re the reason we got to do this for so many years together. So here’s a toast to all of you out there. I hope you’ll watch Tuesday night and enjoy the last show we made for you. We took a trip of a lifetime down to Cuba and drove classic American cars from the 50’s down there, and I can tell you it’s one of the coolest things we have ever done together. Cheers and lots of love, Rutledge

dress rehearsal for cancellation of TOP GEAR uk next month

  • Hard Little Machine

Beards are the new beard. There’s just so much soft feminine beta male you can stuff on a car show

  • timothyhood

Please, don’t try to keep the show alive. There’s a reason why it died. Hardly anyone liked it. Let’s keep that time slot open for an infomercial or something else more enjoyable.

  • buttholepunch

It was finally getting good. The team had gelled and wasn’t awkward anymore. That’s too bad.

  • Twit Happens

very funny guys. sad to see them go. pisser every episode. RIP….

pee in your pants punk. you dont know sheite from shinola

  • kaffekup

I hate to see any car show cancelled. All that leaves is shops run by guys with bizarre facial hair restoring old cars with no budget limits and endless auctions.

  • timothyhood

LOL, Shinola. Are you sure you didn’t mean to call me a whippersnapper? Sorry if I offended one of TG US’ 37 fans. Popular shows don’t get canceled.

  • Sad to say, but I think you’re right. Perhaps if The Grand Tour takes off, Clarkson and Co. can buy back the rights to The Stig.

  • They do. While few shows get canned at their ratings peak, quite a few landmark TV shows end while ratings are still comparatively high, such as “The Simpsons” and “Seinfeld.” “The Simpsons” is going off air largely because of a combination of competition with their own reruns and voice actor salaries (not that they haven’t earned it, given the ROI). “Seinfeld” ended at the end of its ninth season because Jerry Seinfeld felt nine seasons were enough, and he wanted to focus on his personal life. “Seinfeld” led the Nielsen ratings in Seasons six and nine.

They SHOULD buy back The Stig.
The downhill spiral began when they fired Ben Collins.

Voluntarily ending a show and getting canceled are two completely different things. It’s like the difference between quitting and getting fired. TG US was fired. Don’t get me wrong–if I was in their shoes, I’d still want to keep my job alive. It’s probably the best job they’ll ever have.

  • Fair enough.

  • But hey, at least we still have MotorWeek!

  • edd1965

Sorry to see the show go away, it’s difficult to compete against Deadliest Catch on Tuesday.

  • Ron

Top Gear USA is/was way better than the new TG on BBC. If Rutledge and the gang do a new show….I will definitely watch. But as far as the BBC version…they are dead to me.

  • Twit Happens

my late husband was the “deadliest catch”. he seemed like a great catch but his 3 former wives wound up dead. but when we married i made sure he didnt take out life insurance on me. but i squirreled away enough money to take out a sizable policy on him. he met an untimely death that the family doesnt talk about. ever.

  • Twit Happens

and hired that matt leblanc, aka dufus.

  • John

He is better than Chris Evans who wears clothes for every episode and makes into a cooking show.

  • John

He is better than Chris Evans who wears the same clothes for every episode and makes it into a cooking show instead of motoring show.

  • andrew

show was meh. i wish they did more testing of new models and exotics, sort of like old euro top gear. and they challenges with old cars and what not were lame, sorry. at least they gel’d better than new euro top gear does

  • Car Dud – Yes Dud

Wait, there was a TG USA???? Who knew?
