The Race of Champions (ROC), where drivers from all manners of motorsport are pitted head-to-head, is coming to the U.S. for the first time.
The ROC will take place at Miami’s Marlins Park on January 21-22, 2017. This is the first time a baseball park is being used for the event, so a specially designed tarmac track will be built around the field that will be used for the two main events.
The top drivers from NASCAR, Formula 1, IndyCar, Le Mans, World Rally Championship, Global RallyCross, MotoGP and more are invited to compete in the ROC. Different vehicles are for different events, but the most important part is that all identical cars are used in each individual race, making it totally even.
On the the first day (Saturday January 21), the Race of Champions takes place with each driver in an identical machine duking it out to see who is fastest. Then on Sunday, the drivers pair up into teams, each representing their home country.
Four-time F1 world champion Sebastian Vettel will return this year to defend his 2015 title. Other confirmed attendees right now include former IndyCar champion Ryan Hunter-Reay and NASCAR’s Kurt Busch.
“The ROC is a particular challenge that tests versatility and adaptability with little margin for error,” said Kurt Busch. “If the format was not challenging enough, you throw in World Champions from all kinds of disciplines, with various types of cars, which makes for a good recipe. And no matter how much we all like to say it’s ‘just for fun…’ we all want to win this prestigious event.”
Tickets are available now for the two-day race weekend.
