BMW is working on a new top-of-the-line flagship SUV model and here’s the very first photos of it.
It is widely believed that development of the BMW X7 started over three years ago, along with the Rolls-Royce SUV that will share many of the same components. Both models will ride on the CLAR architecture that debuted on the current BMW 7 Series.
The range-topping BMW X7 is believed to source its suspension and other components from the existing X5 and it will likely be offered in both rear-wheel drive and xDrive all-wheel drive. The engine lineup will comprise of six- and eight-cylinder units, as well as a plug-in hybrid variant. Rumor has it BMW may even offer a V12-powered model.
The seven-seater SUV is believed to feature the most luxurious interior that BMW has ever produced in a vehicle, meaning it will be even more upscale than the 7 Series. The new BMW X7 will be assembled at the German automaker’s plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, where it plans to invest $1 billion until late 2016 to boost capacity. Look for the BMW X7 to debut sometime by 2019.
