It’s not a Ferrari or Lamborghini that has been named AutoGuide.com’s 2017 Reader’s Choice Exotic Car of the Year, it’s a McLaren.
As the first model to arrive in the U.S. as part of McLaren’s “Sports Series” of vehicles, the McLaren 570S features a familiar 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with 562 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. That’s good enough to take the exotic from zero-t0-60 mph in 3.1 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 204 mph. Perhaps what makes the McLaren 570S so attractive is its sub-$200,000 price tag, offering supercar performance while competing with the likes of the Porsche 911 Turbo in terms of price. The British automaker has really impressed with its offerings in recent years, and the future looks bright for the nameplate.

Editorial Director Jonathan Yarkony was raving about it for days after a brief test this summer, concluding, “It’s a force of nature, incredibly raw and direct, so light and and balanced that it responds like few other cars I’ve ever experienced, making you crave the next curve, the next onramp, any chance to feel it hold a line, and fully living up to its wild, drmatic looks.” It’s a worthy choice for this award because it delivers on the promise that those scissor doors and exotic styling promise.
