A Ford GT Owned by an F1 Driver is Headed for the Auction Block

It’s one of only five vehicles that were marked “VIP” by the Ford National Sales Company.

Offered for sale by Silverstone Auctions, this 2005 Ford GT was first owned by Jenson Button, British racing driver that won the 2009 Formula 1 World Championship. It has a pre-auction estimate of £250,000 ($313,425) to £300,000 ($376,110) and has just 8,350 miles on the odometer. The winning bidder will also receive a history file including stamps and invoices from Mountune and two services by Ford GT experts GT101, as well as copies of the order form signed by Button.

Prior to crossing the auction block, the 2005 Ford GT will be sent to GT101 for a fresh service and check over. The Silverstone Auctions’ Race Retro Classic Car Sale will take place at Race Retro, Stoneleight Park in Warwickshire on February 25 and 26.

“Given its inimitable heritage, prolific performance, stunning design, and thrilling driving experience, the Ford GT is a very special creation that will undoubtedly be revered for many years to come,” said Will Smith, sales manager of Silverstone Auctions. “In addition, it was once Jenson Button’s very own, adding even more exciting provenance and collectability to this particular example.”
