Infiniti Teases F1-Inspired Q60 Project Black S Concept Ahead Of Geneva

Infiniti has announced it will debut a special high-performance Q60 Project Black S concept at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show

The new two-door, which was developed in part with the Renault Sport Formula 1 team, will feature a special dual-hybrid system that utilizes an energy recovery system (ERS) to route extra juice to a lithium-ion battery pack. The system is apparently similar to that used in today’s F1 cars, which harvest electric energy while the car is under braking and from exhaust gas heat.

The Japanese automaker released a teaser image of the new concept car that gives us a glimpse at the vehicle’s front end. The image isn’t very telling, but does show a lower front bumper with additional air intakes and a new dual vented hood. Infiniti says the car, which is expected to debut in full tomorrow, is a “radical reinterpretation” of the Q60’s design with “stand-out” aerodynamic elements.

The Q60 Project Black S concept will be used to “help to gauge potential public interest in high-performance derivatives,” of future Infiniti models, the automaker says. Its high performance models are currently marked by the presence of a red ‘S’ badge, however this concept may preview the arrival of even faster versions that will be marked with a black ‘S’.

The Infiniti Q60 Project Black S concept will make its international debut in Geneva next week.
