Bentley is working on making its sumptuous interiors more appealing to vegans.
The British automaker is known for crafting some of the finest interiors in the auto industry, but they’re not exactly vegan-friendly. The company uses up to 20 animal hides in its leather upholstery and trimming, and admits that doesn’t sit well with someone with a vegan lifestyle. Bentley’s director of design, Stefan Sielaff, recently revealed at the Financial Times Future of the Car Summit that Bentley is speaking with those customers and asking what it can offer them. “We do a lot of custom-made and coach-built solutions, in conjunction with our colleagues at Mulliner, and therefore we want to satisfy these customers because they are the peak of a trend,” he said.
Although he didn’t give an exact timeframe, Sielaff did say the automaker will “shortly” present a Bentley with a vegan interior and it’ll offer a luxury sensation in a different fashion, featuring protein leather, mushroom leather and jellyfish material.
Last year, Tesla announced it would offer full vegan interiors for its vehicles, likely due to their popularity in the state of California. When speaking with customers about vegan interiors, Sielaff pointed out that Bentley is talking to those especially in California, which is likely a big market for Bentley in the U.S.
