Practical Engineering on YouTube has shared a video explaining how sinkholes form.
In recent years, sinkholes have become a hot topic after the Corvette Museum experienced one that swallowed up several of its collectible Chevys. Since then, the Corvette Museum has embraced what has happened, opening an entire exhibit dedicated to the sinkhole after successfully restoring some of the vehicles that became victims following the accident.
But if you have ever wondered how or why sinkholes occur, the above video does a great job explaining it in layman’s terms. Civil engineer Grady Hillhouse built a miniature replica that reveals what causes most sinkholes that happen in large cities, explaining why it happens.
