The Tesla Model X SUV has been crash-tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and it came away with top honors.
NHTSA gave the Model X a five-star safety rating in every category and sub-category, making it the first SUV to ever accomplish that feat. Besides the five-star ratings, NHTSA says that the Model X has the lowest probability of injury of any SUV ever tested.
The Model X, like the Model S, excels at crash safety thanks to its lack of an engine up front along with the rigid, fortified battery back that is mounted in the floor. That also keeps the center of gravity down low, decreasing the rollover risk, with NHTSA saying the Model X has the lowest rollover probability of any SUV out there.
When you look at all the data together, it means that Model X occupants in a crash have a 93 percent chance of walking away without a serious injury.
