Tesla Owners Could be Getting Their Own Music Streaming Service

Tesla is in talks with music labels about starting its own music streaming service.

The company has been in talks with music labels about licensing a proprietary music service that would come bundled with its vehicles. It’s a curious move, considering how many active users subscribe to services such as Spotify and Pandora, but Tesla CEO Elon Musk is never one to stray away from believing he can do things better than the competition.

Recode reports that although music labels aren’t clear about the full scope of Tesla’s ambitions, it is believed Tesla is looking into offering multiple tiers of service, starting with a Pandora-like web radio offering.

A Tesla spokesperson replied to Recode‘s inquiry with the following statement: “We believe it’s important to have an exceptional in-car experience so our customers can listen to the music they want from whatever source they choose. Our goal is to simply achieve maximum happiness for our customers.”
