Why Hybrids Aren’t Just for Hippies Anymore

Chrysler has launched America’s first-ever hybrid minivan—and it’s built for a compromise-free drive.

This post is sponsored by the All-New Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid.

Hybrids hit the market some years ago, blending gasoline and electric power and promising reduced emissions and fuel use. Back then, owning a hybrid vehicle meant taking a hit in the styling, performance, functionality, and drivability departments. In fact, it’s hardly any wonder that, to this day, a large portion of the motoring public still thinks that’s the case.

Thing is, hybrid technology, and the way automakers capitalize on it, has advanced considerably. The result? Today’s hybrid vehicles pose virtually no compromise, and the game-changing, all-new-for-2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid—America’s first-ever hybrid minivan—proves it.

2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid

Luxury styling on a minivan? Check.

As a modern hybrid, the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid gives drivers a machine with numerous strengths and no compromise. Case in point? The Pacifica Hybrid is fully powered, performs like any other vehicle, and requires no concessions to do it. Blending the efforts of a high-efficiency gasoline V6 engine and innovative electric motor drive system, drivers get 260 horsepower and impressive fuel savings.

In fact, Pacifica Hybrid’s high-capacity battery means that owners can plug the vehicle in to fully charge the battery and drive up to 33 miles1 per charge, using no gasoline at all. When the battery runs low, the gasoline engine comes online seamlessly, to keep you moving. So, on trips less than 33 miles1, you’ll virtually never use fuel. Longer trip in order? With a full tank of gasoline and a fully charged battery, Pacifica Hybrid is capable of up to 566 miles2 of total driving range.

Here’s what powers the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid.

Drivers get full performance, full driving range and minimal stops to refuel with up to 84 MPGe3—all from a machine built to wow owners and passengers alike.

Hop on board as Pacifica’s award-winning cabin design, tremendous sense of space and ultra-modern appointments stretch out around you. Functional and as flexible as can be, Pacifica Hybrid’s cabin will make passenger jaws drop before you even tell them they’re riding along in America’s first-ever hybrid minivan. Conversation starter? Very yes.

The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica’s Cabin has a luxury feel—even from the back row.

On looks, performance and functionality alone, Pacifica Hybrid proves that anyone, not just a hippie, can benefit from a hybrid vehicle—and the benefits continue. Not only is it eligible for up to a $7,500 tax credit4, but busy moms and dads can take advantage of prime parking at numerous retailers, restaurants and shopping centers that are offering “PLUG-IN VEHICLE” charging stations with more popping up on the daily. Some even offer free charging for patrons. If you’ve got a busy day of errands ahead, a potentially free battery top-off in a top-of-the-line parking space is an appealing proposition.

Add in the full suite of clever, family-ready features that have defined Chrysler’s minivans for generations, including Pacifica Hybrid’s available new hands-free liftgate and sliding doors, and there’s convenience to spare. After a short walk back to your primo parking space with an armful of shopping and toddler, just a kick of your foot beneath the corresponding door, or the liftgate, opens it automatically—even if the keys are buried deep in your pocket or bag.

Further, in Pacifica Hybrid’s EV driving mode, there’s no traditional noise from the engine starting or running—thereby extending those peaceful moments when the kids are asleep and when you can relax and unwind while driving down the road without the sound of a typical gas-burning engine running.

Things have come a long way since the first hybrids, and the all-new Pacifica Hybrid proves it. With space to spare, room to grow, family-ready touches galore such as the Uconnect® Theater and dual 10.1-inch touchscreens5 with built-in apps and games as well as the promise of drastically reduced visits to the gas station, Pacifica Hybrid is worth a test-drive by any modern family man or woman. 1  EPA-estimate with fully charged battery. I heard from my local Chrysler dealer that they are not getting anymore Pacifica Hybrids this year, and Chrysler is waiting to release them for 2018.
