Rumors have surfaced suggesting the next-generation Lexus GS F will feature a turbocharged V8 engine, going against word the mid-size luxury sedan will be discontinued.

In March, Japanese magazine MAG-X reported that Lexus has decided to ax the GS sedan to give breathing room for the new LS flagship. But now another Japanese publication, Best Car, reports a next-generation GS F will arrive powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with over 590 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. The publication also reported the same powerplant will be used on a high-performance version of the LC, possibly the LC F.

There have been plenty of reports suggesting the LC F is in development, including new trademark filings around the world for the nameplate. So while the Lexus LC F seems like a certainty, a next-generation GS F may not be. It’s a stronger possibility the next-generation Lexus ES will essentially place the GS, as the Japanese automaker makes its entry-level sedan larger and more luxurious.
