Wiz Khalifa’s See You Again has passed Psy’s Gangnam Style to become the most watched video on YouTube.
First reported by BBC News, Khalifa’s video featuring singer Charlie Puth now racked up nearly 2.9 billion views, surpassing the odd Internet phenomenon that is Gangnam Style. The song was written as a tribute to Paul Walker for Furious 7, after his untimely passing when the Porsche Carrera GT he was riding in crashed in 2013.
The music video features the final scene of the movie, where Vin Diesel’s character and Paul Walker’s character are driving side-by-side. The scene was created through CGI, with Paul Walker’s brother, Cody Walker, filling in. The video reached one billion views in six months and passed the two billion mark last September.
While See You Again has been watched by more people than any other YouTube video, it seems its time at the top will be short-lived. Luis Fonsi’s Despacito has just under 2.5 billion views as of this writing and it was only released in January, so unless interest in the track dips suddenly, it’s trending to one day become the most viral clip on the video site.
