Spy Photographers Claim to Have Caught a Ford Bronco Mule

Spy photographers believe they have caught a mule for the upcoming Ford Bronco.

Spied testing alongside prototypes for the new Ford Ranger pickup was this SUV wearing a Ford Everest body. Although our spy photographers’ sources inside Ford wouldn’t confirm, they did hint that it’s likely a Bronco mule that we’re looking at. It is expected that the Bronco will share a number of its components with the new Ranger truck.

Not much is known about the new Bronco except rumors say it could target the Jeep Wrangler. The nameplate makes a return after a 20-plus-year hiatus and will be built in Michigan. Expect power to come from turbocharged four- and six-cylinder engines, although diesel and hybrid variants are also possible.

The new Ford Bronco should make its public auto show debut by 2019.

This would be the current Ford Everest SUV based on the Global Ranger.

I’d hide the new mechanicals under this existing body for testing. I’m hoping the new Bronco will look more distinct as the Everest is a pretty conservative design. We can guess since the Everest has 7 seats, 2.0L ecoboost, 2.2L inline 4 diesel, and a 3.2L inline 5 cylinder diesel that they might options for the Bronco. I expect the Ranger will have the 2.5L I4, 3.3L V6, and 3.2L I5 diesel, but the 2.0 ecoboost, 2.3 ecoboost, and 2.7 V6 ecoboost might be options.
