Subaru has released a video of its record-setting WRX STI Type RA NBR Special Nurburgring lap.
The Japanese automaker announced it had set a new lap record for a four-door sedan last month, turning in a time of 6:57.5 at the famous 12.8-mile Nurburgring Nordschleife race track. Along with the promised video being released today, Subaru has also treated us to a gallery with over 50 photos of the team preparing for the attempt, as well as the car tearing up the track. Behind the wheel for the record-setting attempt was Richie Stanaway.
The heavily modified WRX STI Type RA NBR Special was designed to showcase the capabilities of the WRX STI and to draw attention to the upcoming release of the production WRX STI Type RA. The time attack race car also set lap records at the Isle of Man TT and the Goodwood Festival of Speed – where it was also 3rd fastest overall. Based on a 2017 Subaru WRX STI, the race car has a full roll cage and a modified 2.0-liter Subaru engine that produces over 600 horsepower and reached a top speed of 179 mph at the Nurburgring.
