After a gruelling 24 hours of racing at the Green Hell, the number-9 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 from German team Black Falcon took the overall victory at the Nurburgring endurance classic.

It’s the first time the German automaker has claimed an overall victory at the event and it’s all thanks to drivers Bernd Schneider, Jeroen Bleekemolen, Sean Edwards and Nicki Thiim. Finishing second at this year’s Nurburgring 24 Hours race was the number-25 BMW Z4 M GT3 while the number-22 Rowe Racing SLS AMG GT3 came in third. Noticeably missing from this year’s overall podium were Audi and Porsche, who have typically fared well at the event.

Seventh overall was the number-18 Porsche GT3 from Manthey Racing, which won the SP7 class. Topping the near-production SP8 class was the number-81 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 which also finished 21st overall.

Poor weather caused the red flag to drop five and a half hours into the race, causing a delay of more than nine hours. The tough weather conditions also caused some teams to rethink their strategies, with some of them content with just finishing the race. Aston Martin was one of those teams, leading early with its number-7 V12 Vantage GT3 but opted to take it safe and took 10th place overall.

The Gazoo Racing Lexus LFA finished 37th overall.

This weekend, the Australian V8 Supercar Series heads to America for the first time in its storied history.

Tackling the new Circuit of the Americas track in Austin, Texas, Australia’s V8 Supercars will complement the World Challenge race at the same venue. 28 cars in total will be competing in the inaugural event with Ford, Holden, Nissan, and Mercedes-Benz all being represented.

The V8 Supercars will compete in four 62-mile sprints with two races on Saturday and Sunday, preceded by a qualifying session each morning.

Live streams will be available on Saturday, May 18 at 5:10 PM EST, Sunday at 12:01 PM EST, 3:55 PM EST, and 5:40 PM EST. Monday will cap off the streaming event at the same times as Sunday.

Those fortunate enough to attend Lamborghini’s 50th anniversary celebrations were treated with the unveiling of the one-off Egoista; for the rest of the world, this will be the best glimpse we’ll get of the supercar in action… for now.

The Italian automaker has released a video recapping the final day of its Grande Giro tour which took hundreds of exotic Lamborghinis from Bologna to Sant’Agata Bolognese, home of Automobili Lamborghini.

Part of its year-long celebrations, the Grande Giro ran from May 7 through May 11 and spanned across close to 750 miles of Italy’s roads. Both vintage and modern-day Lamborghini models were present.

Lamborghini has taken the automotive world by storm yet again this year, unveiling what it calls the Egoista in Sant’Agata Bolognese yesterday as it finished off its festivities to celebrate the brand’s 50th anniversary.

Little more than rumors and poor iPhone photos at first, we now have full details on Lambo’s single-seater supercar.

Designed by Walter de Silva, the Egoista is simply one of the most extreme and radical exotics to have ever existed. It is powered by a 5.2-liter, V10 with 600 hp, but while that’s rather tame compared to other recently released supercars, the single-seater is designed for pure driving pleasure.

The cockpit, made entirely of carbon fiber and aluminum, was inspired by an Apache helicopter. According to De Silva, it represents a survival cell, isolating the driver and protecting it from external elements. But it’s really the exterior of the Egoista that is shocking. The goal was to have it represent a raging bull preparing to charge, with its horns lowered. Flaps were integrated into the bodywork profile that act automatically depending on the driving conditions. Lighting on the Egoista is more fitting on an aircraft than a vehicle with LED clearance lights that determine its position in three dimensions rather than on a single plane.

A heads-up display is the focal point of the interior, typically found in jet fighters. A removable steering wheel allows the driver to exit and enter the cockpit while the dome opens with an electronic command. A racing seat takes center stage in the interior, if you even want to call it that, accompanied by a four-point seatbelt with each strip a different color.

“It’s as if Ferruccio Lamborghini were saying: I’m going to put the engine in the back, I don’t want a passenger,” said De Silva on the Egoista. “I want it for myself, and I want it as I imagine it to be. It is a fanatical vehicle, Egoista fits it well.”

So how much will the Egoista cost? And will it ever see production? The answers are surprising. First, nothing. Second, it already has.

To explain more thoroughly, Lamborghini has already built the car, just the one, and there will be no duplicates. In a release the company says it is, “a gift from Lamborghini to Lamborghini… which no one can ever possess.” As such it will, “always remain a dream, for everyone.”

A record 92-car field will be competing in the Pirelli World Challenge at The Circuit of the Americas on May 17-19, 2013.

The race will also be part of the V8 Supercars Austin 400 event weekend, and both GT and GTS classes will compete in Rounds 4 and 5, while Touring Car and Touring Car B-Spec classes open their 2013 season with a triple-header weekend.

In total, 19 GT competitors will join 34 GTS competitors on the new track in Austin, Texas while 19 TC and 20 TCB cars are expected to enter. Over 20 automakers will be represented at the weekend’s motorsport activities, which will surely be one of the finest gathering of race machines this year.

James Sofronas of Global Motorsports Group will look to continue his strong start in the number-14 Audi R8 LMS in the GT class while Jack Baldwin in the number-73 GTSport Racing with Goldcrest Porsche Cayman S leads in the GTS Drivers’ Championship.

Volkswagen has teased yet another concept that will be making its debut at this year’s Worthersee event, an Amarok R-Style concept pickup truck.

Promising to bring a new perspective on the traditional pickup, the Amarok R-Style concept features unique styling and is packed with high-tech accessories. The concept will be powered by a 3.0-liter, V6 TDI engine with 272 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

According to the German automaker, it accelerates to 62 mph from a standstill in 7.9 seconds. To give it an aggressive stance, the Amarok R-Style concept features a widebody with carbon fiber front and rear bumpers. The widened stance allows the pickup to ride on 22-inch wheels wrapped with 295/35/22 tires.

As for the inside, Volkswagen teased plenty of carbon fiber on the interior components in addition to bucket seats and an angular-styled steering wheel.

The Lamborghini 50th Anniversary Grand Tour is kicking off at the Piazza Castello in Milan with 350 cars adding up to over 190,000 hp on the road.

A total of over 700 people from 29 different countries spanning from Canada to New Zealand are participating in the festivities with vehicles being unloaded from overseas just for the occasion. United Kingdom is representing well at the event with 71 vehicles while Italy, Germany, and Switzerland have over 30 a piece. Amazingly, there are 21 vehicles from America and 17 from China.

As for the participants, the youngest driver is from Kuwait and was born in 1991 while the oldest is a French national at 75 years. Historic Lamborghini models joining the tour include three 350 GTs, five 400 GTs, 17 Miuras, eight Espadas, two Jaramas, six Urracos, 15 Countaches, one LM 002, 21 Diablos, and 36 Murcielagos. There are 123 Gallardos registered for the event, making up the majority of attendance.

The Grand Tour will be heading to Bobbio first before it continues the trek to Bologna. It will then head to Sant’Agata Bolognese, headquarters of Lamborghini, where it will conclude with a celebratory dinner.

Volkswagen is heading to this year’s Worthersee event with a concept race car, a 503-hp Design Vision GTI.

Based on the seventh-generation GTI, the German automaker has transformed it into a sleek race car that “could start racing tomorrow.” The design team was led by Klaus Bischoff, Head of Design of Volkswagen Brand, and features an aggressively wide body fitting 235-wide tires in the front and 275-wide tires in the rear. 20-inch wheels will be bolted onto the race concept, and Volkswagen claims it can reach a top speed of 186 mph.

Powered by a 3.0-liter V6, the concept car is turbocharged with direct injection and provides 413 lb-ft of torque to back up the 503 hp. All the power is sent to the wheels through a DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission and the automaker’s all-wheel-drive system. The Design Vision GTI can hit 62 mph from a standstill in just 3.9 seconds.

But it’s not all about speed, large 15-inch carbon-ceramic brake discs are found up front while 14-inch rotors adorn the rear. As for the dimensions, the Design Vision GTI is 0.6 inches shorter than a regular GTI and is 2.2 inches lower and 2.8 inches wider. The vehicle is finished in a White Club paint while the add-on parts were painted a contrast Piano Paint Black. The GTI insignia as well as the strip in the front has been finished in red.

As for the interior, race-inspired changes were made to give the vehicle a “pure GTI” feel, concentrating on the essentials but with style. Alcantara and Nappa leather were used in the cabin while the rear seats have been tossed out in exchange for an X-shaped cross member to strengthen the chassis.

McLaren is heading to this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed with a selection of legendary models from the automaker’s heritage collection along with race- and championship-winning models.

Attending the Goodwood Festival of Speed is part of the brand’s 50th anniversary celebrations, and McLaren will have its modern-day 12C GT Can-Am Edition taking part in the run up the Goodwood Hill. The 12C GT Can-Am Edition will be produced in strictly limited numbers, with no more than 30 being built globally according to McLaren.

McLaren’s Racing team claimed five back-to-back world championships from 1969 and 1974 and is the most successful team in the history of Can-Am racing.

As Aston Martin celebrates its 100th anniversary, the British automaker has announced a tour through Europe that will have new and old models on display.

The oldest model that Aston Martin will be showing off through Europe is a 1921 A3, which is one of three prototypes Aston Martin created after the first World War. Other highlights mentioned by the automaker include an original 1963 DB5 and a brand new Vanquish from this year.

Continuing the celebration of its 50th anniversary, Lamborghini’s next stop is the 2013 Techno Classica in Essen where it’ll be bringing two supercars that have made automotive history.

The Italian automaker will be setting up shop at the event in pavilion seven with a classic 350 GT and a 1972 P 400 Miura SV. The 350 GT pays homage to the brand as the first mass-produced Lamborghini, while the 1972 P 400 is the final evolution of the legendary Miura, arguably the first super car with a modern design.

Both vehicles heading to the event will be taken from the Lamborghini Museum at the company’s headquarters in Italy. In addition, Lamborghini will have an expert on replacement parts for classic cars at the event, providing information on original spare parts to classic Lamborghini models.

The 2013 Techno Classica opens to the public on Thursday, April 11.

Last year, the Hennessey Performance Ford GT set a standing mile record at 257 mph, shattering the former record of 223 mph set by a 2006 Ford GT. This year, the same car broke its own record hitting 267.6 mph in a standing mile in Texas.

Owned by Mark Heidaker, the Ford GT has been built by Hennessey Performance and Accufab Racing and was once again driven by Sean Kennedy during the record run. The Ford GT is equipped with a twin-turbo, 5.4-liter V8 though its actual performance specifications are unknown. Last year, John Hennessey went on the record saying that “2000 hp is a pretty safe bet.”

That new record put the Hennessey Ford GT just two tenths of a second behind the production car top speed record of 267.81 mph, set by the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport.
