Forget chasing down celebrities, there’s far more fun to be had as an automotive spy photographer – especially when you’re in Germany and have use of the autobahn. The video below comes to us from M5Board site owner Gustav, who managed to capture 10 minutes of video showing the upcoming BMW 6 Series Convertible.
The video starts with the BMW test drivers realizing they’re being stalked and their attempt to get away. What they don’t know is that Gustav and his camera aren’t in a standard BMW M3, but a supercharged model by G-Power, making 635-hp. He decides to give chase and as a result we get some of the best shots yet of the new 6 Series Convertible – at speeds up up to 250 km/h (155 mph).
The new 6 Series Convertible could debut as early as this Fall’s Paris Auto Show, with reports indicating a 640i model will be offered with a turbocharged inline-six, as well as a 650xi (AWD) model – although don’t expect an AWD convertible.

The next-generation BMW 6 Series will be offered with a turbocharged six-cylinder engine as well as an all-wheel drive V8 model. According to a BMW employee posting on BimmerPost, the 2012 6 Series will initially be offered as a 650 model in both coupe and convertible form with production starting in early to mid 2011, with 640 and 650xi models heading into production in September. We expect the 640 to use the same turbocharged inline-six found in the new 740i.
Also noteworthy is the fact that the second-generation BMW X3 will also get a turbocharged inline-six. Launching as a 2011 model year crossover, the X3 will go into production in December of 2010 with an X3 xDrive28i model offered as well as the 300-hp turbocharged x3 xDrive35i.
