There’s no doubt that 2010 has been a monumentally important year for the auto industry and one worth looking back on. From the Toyota recall crisis, to the success stories at Hyundai and Ford, to the launch of the Chevy Volt and Nissan Leaf, there have been no end of major news stories in the automotive sector.
However, 2011 is shaping up to be an equally exciting year, especially when it comes to the actual products, and so rather than a look back at the best of 2010, we thought it best to look ahead at the most anticipated cars that will debut over the next 12 months, starting in just a few weeks at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show.
With several spy shots having already hit the interwebs, this is the first video of the new 2012 Chevy Camaro Z28 undergoing testing on the Nürburgring in Germany.
Designed to rival the Ford Shelby GT500, the Camaro Z28 is all but confirmed to get the Cadillac CTS-V’s supercharged 6.2-liter LSA V8 with a solid 550-hp (likely more). Combined with the Camaro’s fully independent suspension, 20-inch wheels and what will no doubt be a high-performance Brembo brake setup, it should make for quite a package – although hopefully GM’s engineers were able to cut some weight from the beast.
Chevy continues to be silent on Camaro Z28 news, but we’d expect such an iconic American car to debut at (where else?) the Detroit Auto Show in January.

The launch of the higher performance Chevy Camaro Z28 is approaching and so its no surprise to see more spy photos of the car popping up on the internet. These latest pics come via a member of Camaro5, who snapped a duo of Z28s testing in Coronado (San Diego).
Most notable from the photos are what appear to be massive bumps in the hood (much larger than anticipated), which are believed to signify the supercharged 6.2-liter LSA V8 that will give the Camaro Z28 as much as 556-hp.
We’ll continue to await more info on Chevy’s high-powered Camaro, but in the mean time, make sure to check out our Z28 rendering here.

Chevrolet will in fact bring a Camaro Z28 to market some time in 2011 as a 2012 model year car to take on Ford’s Shelby GT500 Mustang. According to a report by Inside Line, the ultra-high-performance (were talking more ponies than a Z06 Vette here folks) Camaro Z28 is being held off slightly to put the focus on the Camaro Convertible. Nothing has been confirmed about the Z28, but it is expected to rumored to get the Cadillac CTS-V’s supercharged 6.2-liter V8 – making close to that’s car’s 556-hp.
In addition, the rest of the 2012 model year Camaros will get a revised interior with updates made to the dash; particularly the area in front of the passenger. Hopefully the GM designers and engineers can find a way to add a bit more headroom too.
