The first thing you should know about Porsche Camp4 Canada is that it’s not about going fast. Blasphemy you say? A waste of a Porsche you say? Well, you’re wrong.

The 2013 Porsche Boxster S, which recently debuted at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, just clocked in an impressive 7:58 on the NĂĽrburgring.

That makes the new Boxster S a tick faster than the Chevy Corvette C6 (7:59), Dodge Viper SRT-10 (7:59), and the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe (8:01). The Boxster S is powered by a 3.4-liter flat-six engine packing 315-hp and a 4.7-second 0-60 time. The 3.4L is mated to a six-speed manual as standard, but a seven-speed PDK dual clutch transmission is available as an option. Also optional is a Sport Chrono Package with Dynamic Transmission Mounts and a Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) mechanical differential.

Compared to the more powerful Porsche 911, the Boxster S is about 18 seconds slower on the ‘Ring, but still impressive given the cars it bests.

Once a cute entry-level sports car, the Porsche Boxster has grown in size, power and price. Unveiled today at the Geneva Motor Show, the third generation Boxster is a potent performer – and looks it.

With styling inspired by the upcoming 918 Spyder, the Boxster is now longer and wider, helping deliver a more refined driving experience and more space inside. The chassis itself is also made entirely of aluminum, helping cut weight.

The standard Boxster gets a down-sized engine to 2.7-liters (200 cc smaller), though power is up to 265 hp and Porsche claims a 0-60 time of 5.4 seconds. Boxster S models will get a much larger 3.4-liter flat-six making 315 hp (a slight 5 hp increase), with a 4.7 second sprint to 60 mph. A six-speed manual is standard, with an optional 7-speed PDK dual clutch unit. Also optional is a Sport Chrono Package with Dynamic Transmission Mounts and a Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) mechanical differential.

Look for the 2013 Boxster to arrive in the US this summer, starting at $49,500 and the Boxster S at $60,900.
