Gone But Not Forgotten
A lot went down in 2013. It was something of a banner year for the automotive business. Products continued to get better, sales steadily improved and alternative propulsion, whether in the form of electricity or diesel gained significant traction.
Completely redesigned for the 2013 model year, the three-door Audi A3 has been revealed on the eve of the Geneva Motor Show. The A3 will be made available in the European market with engine choices of a 1.4L TFSI, 1.8L TFSI, and 2.0L TDI.
With the help of the new “Audi ultra” lightweight technology, the new A3 weighs in 176 lbs lighter than its outgoing predecessor. The 1.4L TFSI engine will have 122-hp, while the 1.8L TFSI will sport 180-hp. The turbodiesel powerplant will have 143-hp from its 2.0L offering. The German automaker also announced that the new powerplants average a 12-percent improvement in fuel efficiency.
Both the 1.4L TFSI and 2.0L TDI are mated to a six-speed manual transmission while the 1.8L features a seven-speed S tronic, twin-clutch transmission. Audi hopes to expand its engine lineup in the A3 with an efficient 1.6L TDI debuting later in 2012.
Pricing of the new A3 Hatchback will start at around $30,150 (£19,000) with deliveries in Europe beginning in September.
Audi is expected to deliver a sedan version of the A3 for North America.
