Audi has yet to import their bonkers TT-RS to North America, and the odds that it will make it over here are about the same as the Kansas City Royals winning the World Series. The 335 horsepower five-cylinder is enticing, but the $66,000 price tag is sure to put a lot of prospective buyers off.
For those who don’t feel like dropping that much money on a TT, Audi will have the same powerplant tucked into a much more practical package, in the form of a five-door A3 hatchback. The RS3, as its sure to be known, will get the five-banger, a revised fascia as well as bigger brakes. Nothing has been revealed about the chassis tuning, but you can equally be sure that some new suspension bits will be included as well.
The A3 hasn’t been a rousing success in North America, but a fast version would go a long way to lift the cars profile among the public. The only question is, will anyone be willing to fork over what is sure to be a hefty price tag for a 350 horsepower hatchback?

With sale of the Audi RS4 ceasing several years ago, North America has been wanting for a high-performance Audi for some time and, finally, that drought is about to end. According to a report by Car & Driver, Audi CEO Rupert Stadler has confirmed the recently unveiled RS5 will be sold in North America.
The RS5 takes every aspect of the already amazing S5 and ups the ante with a 450-hp 5.2-liter V8, 19-inch wheels, a lowered suspension and massive brakes. Combined with Audi’s S-tronic dual-clutch 7-speed transmission, quattro all-wheel drive and a 3,803 lb curb weight the RS5 can accelerate to 62 mph in 4.6 seconds. There’s also Audi’s drive-select program to control different levels of throttle response, steering, transmission gear changes, the sport differential and even the exhaust system.
Other highlights include an electronic limited slip differential, that slows the inside wheel in a turn when wheel spin is detected. Plus, an optional sport differential will be made available, distributing power between the rear wheels. The RS5 even features Audi’s new crown-gear differential, which allows for up to 70 percent of the power to be distributed to the front wheels, or as much as 85 percent to the rear wheels.
The RS5 should go on sale later this year as a 2011 model and C&D estimates pricing around that of the M3 – although we have to think it will be a good chunk more expensive than the Bimmer.
When it does arrive, the RS5 might not be the only RS model in North America with several reports indicating the TT-RS will make its way across the pond (to Canada at least).

It’s a great day to be Canadian. Why you ask? Well, along with the overall friendliness, beautiful scenery and lack of crime, it now appears as though Canada will get the incredible Audi TT-RS.
Haven’t hear of it? Well, you know that TT-S that’s currently on sale with the turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder. Well, add an extra cylinder and 0.5-liters of displacement and then make the whole package a lot more hard-core and you’ve got the TT-RS. In total it makes 335-hp and 332 ft-lbs of torque and when combined with quattro all-wheel drive and offered exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission, it can hit 62 mph in just 4.6 seconds.
Its unusual that Canada would get a model that the United States wouldn’t, unless of course Audi is still planning to bring the car here as well. Plus, Audi Canada hasn’t officially confirmed this report either. However, there is one good reason that Canada could get the car, namely, the high price of cars in the country. Even when the Canadian and U.S dollars are at parity, (like they pretty much are now), vehicles in Canada cost anywhere from 10 to 15 percent more – plus the significantly higher taxes. This makes it possible for Audi (or any other automaker) to make a slight profit, which would be impossible in the U.S. on a 10 to 15 percent cheaper car.Generally, automakers still choose not to sell such vehicles in Canada because of the low volume possible.
According to Monvolant, (which also claims the BMW X1 rear-drive model will make its way to Canada), just 250 TT-RS models will be imported to Canada. Lucky bastards, eh?

340hp and 0-62 mph in 4.6 seconds
After plenty of leaked details Audi has released all the juicy info on the TT-RS during the sportscar’s unveiling at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show. The car does in fact make 340hp and an impressive 332 ft-lbs of torque from an all-new turbocharged 2.5-liter 5-cylinder engine.
But the TT-RS is about more than just power, it’s actually intended to be a real driver’s car. In fact Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen drove the white TT-RS onto the stage at Geneva. The car weighs quite little, especially considering it retains its quattro all-wheel drive system. The curb weight of the coupe is just 3,197 pounds and the roadster will tip the scales at 3,329 lbs.
Zero to 62 mph is rated at 4.6 seconds with a tenth of a second more for the TT-RS Roadster. One of the reasons is that all that torque is available as of just 1600 rpm.
The TT-RS features a new suspension setup with stiffer springs and quicker reacting shocks. It also comes with 18-inch wheels with 245/45/18 tires at all four corners. (19 and 20-inch wheels are optional). Front brake calipers measure 14.6-inches and rears measure 12.2-inches. Audi was also smart in that they made it possible to completely shut off the stability control.
The interior will be offered in several different specifications with one trim-line even including a mixed leather and Alcantara design.
Impressively, the car is available exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission. Which brings us to the bad news… it’s not available in North America. Not yet anyway.

Audi has just released some more images of its upcoming TT RS and apparently both a Coupe and a Convertible will be offered. And while the images look great, the rumors about the power output of these cars sounds even better.
Carscoop is reporting that they have obtained the official specs on the cars and that Audi’s claim of “far more” than 300hp from the TT RS isn’t far off. The high-performance version of the TT is expected to make 340hp and 333 ft-lbs of torque thanks to a turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine.
The TT RS will make use of Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive system and will use a six-speed manual gearbox (YES!). There is no word on if a DSG system will be offered.
Audi says the TT RS will be capable of hitting 62 mph in less than 5.0-seconds.
Unfortunately Audi has still not confirmed the car for launch in the U.S.

Set to debut at the Geneva Auto Show in March, the long-awaited Audi TT RS is powered by an all-new 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine that features both direct-injection and turbocharging.
Audi has only released these teaser images and hasn’t released any specifics as of yet, but the company does say the new powerplant will make “far more” than 300hp.
Audi claims that “a legend is reborn” referring to the five-cylinder engine, a powerplant that has a long history with the four-rings.
As for performance statistics, Audi once again teases us, stating that it takes “nowhere near” 5 seconds to hit 100km/h (62 mph). Top speed is said to be 155 mph.
The only other item known about the car is that it will apparently have impressive brakes. One can assume this means that carbon ceramic rotors will be a part of the package.
