The BMW 1 Series M Coupe will be remembered as an amazing sports car despite being rushed through its development. Its successor however, will be built the way BMW wants a M coupe to be built.

10. Chevrolet Corvette: 86.9%

Last month we reported the top 10 cars with the highest percentage of female owners, and now we have a less-than-surprising list of top 10 cars with the highest percentage of male buyers. The list is courtesy InsideLine with the data provided by Polk and reflects total purchases made last year in 2011.

Coming in at number 10 with 86.9 percent of its owners being male is the Chevrolet Corvette. Arguably the most iconic sports car in American history, it’s no surprise that the vast majority of them are owned and driven by men. In fact, there are few surprises on this list considering most of the vehicles are dream cars of teenage boys, or those suffering a mid-life crisis.

Whittled down from all the cars in the world, a group of 66 automotive journalists from across the globe have released their top 10 picks for the 2012 World Car of the Year and World Performance Car.

That list, which will be further narrowed this month, is initially selected by secret ballot and then submitted for re-evaluation by the panel.

Members then have a chance to rate each car based on overall merit, value, safety, environmental responsibility, emotional appeal, and significance. The top three are then scheduled to be announced March 6 at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show during a press conference.

The 2011 World Car of the Year was the Nissan Leaf, while the World Performance Car was the Ferrari 458 Italia. What we’re most curious about this year is the fact that the Porsche 911 made it into both categories.

The 2012 World Performance Car finalists are:

What’s new to talk about with the BMW 1 Series M Coupe? Nothing. So why are we talking about it? We’re not. Rather, we’re drooling over a stunning selection of new photos BMW has released of the car.

Looking prepped for a cover shoot, it’s hard not to lust after this incredible sports car and wish you were on a race track. Powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter straight-six, the 1M Coupe makes 335-hp and 332 ft-lbs of torque with an extra 37 ft-lbs available in an overboost mode. Able to hit 60 mph in 4.7 seconds, the 1M is a true enthusiasts machine and only comes with a six-speed manual transmission.

Additional modifications include 19-inch wheels with wider tires, not to mention flared fenders by almost 1.8-inches up front and 2.8-inches in the rear.

But enough chit chat, browse through the stunning gallery of pics below.

Next time you watch a MotoGP race, be sure to note that BMW is always out in front of Mercedes. Sure neither automaker competes in the F1 of motorcycle racing, but while Mercedes’ AMG division sponsors the Ducati team, BMW is providing the pace car.

That pace car is based on the new 1 Series M Coupe, painted up in BMW’s motorsports livery and kitted-out with some extra track goodies. Included on the car is a KW suspension setup, Akrapovic exhaust, a roll cage, Recaro racing seats, upgraded brakes, plus the use of added carbon fiber parts and polycarbonate windows. Oh, and in case you can’t notice, it’s also got the requisite light bar and a massive rear spoiler.

Forget the Ducatis, we want to see what kind of a lap time thing thing can run.

Perhaps you’ve watched the German film Downfall. You know, the one where Adolph Hitler goes on an extended rant about being betrayed while in his bunker. More likely you’ve seen one of the many spoofs of the rant, including a famous one dedicated to Nissan’s GT-R launch control fiasco.

Well, Hitler is back on the topic of cars, this time taking aim at the new BMW 1 Series M Coupe and its turbocharged 6-cylinder engine. In the subtitled rant, Hitler attacks everything from the N54 engine’s reliability to the fact that a retuned engine from a regular BMW is not worthy of an M car.

Forget the Chevy Volt; the BMW 1 Series M Coupe is easily the most highly anticipated car of the past 12 months. With details previously announced, BMW today drew back the covers on its turbocharged baby M3 at the Detroit Auto Show for our first look at the car in its curvy sheetmetal.

Using the company’s twin-turbo 3.0-liter straight-six, the 1M Coupe makes 340-hp and 332 ft-lbs of torque, plus an overboost function helps deliver an extra 37 ft-lbs. Using a six-speed manual transmission (the only one available), the 1M Coupe can hit 60-mph in just 4.7 seconds – meaning that if BMW were to offer a DCT that number would easily be 4.5.

Revving up the engine for all to hear, BMW sales and marketing boss Ian Robertson remarked that, “There’s no denying that is the engine of a true M.”

For maximum fun, hit the M Drive button, which improves throttle response, as well as the M Dynamic Mode button that limits the traction and stability control.

And while the engine numbers aren’t astonishing, there’s for more to the 1M Coupe than straight power, with the car weighing 77 lbs less than a 135i. Handling is also improved with wider fenders to house the new 19-inch wheels with 245/35/19 tires up front and 265/35/19 tires in the rear. The actual track of the car has also been widened considerably, with the rear track 1.8-inches wider than stock and the front track 2.8-inches wider that stock.

Outside the sports coupe does take the M3 style a step further with a more edgy design and quad exhaust pipes, while the interior is typical M with sports seats, a thick steering wheel with M colored stitching and a few other accent pieces.

There is one down side to this new model, however, and that’s the price with BMW stickering the sports car with a hefty $47,010 tag.

In case the months of build-up and big reveal weren’t enough for you, we now have video of BMW‘s 1 Series M Coupe to share. Better yet, it’s alongside it’s historical inspiration: the E30 M3. (Yummy!)

In case you’ve been living under an oil pan, the 1M Coupe uses the company’s twin-turbo 3.0-liter straight-six to make 335-hp and 332 ft-lbs of torque, plus there’s an overboost function that much like in the Z4 sDrive35is or 335is, helps deliver an extra 37 ft-lbs. Using a six-speed manual transmission (the only one available), the 1M Coupe can hit 60-mph in just 4.7 seconds – meaning that if BMW were to offer a DCT that number would easily be 4.5.

BMW will show the car for the first time at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show in January and we’ll be sure to bring you plenty of photos of the new sports car then.

As anticipation builds for the car’s official reveal at the Detroit Auto Show in January, BMW has finally shown its new 1 Series M Coupe completely uncovered and from several angles in a new short video.

The car is expected to deliver 340-hp from a twin-turbo inline-six engine.

As is obvious from the video, the car gets some M3-inspired aerodynamics, but with an even more aggressive look and more angles – looking a lot like our rendering from several months back. Other items include some massive forged aluminum wheels, as well as big brakes.

BMW will take the wraps off the M Division-tuned 1 Series on December 12th, according to a forum post on 1addicts.com

So far, the only news is coming from BMW Belgium, who told one member that December 12th is the official reveal date. At this point, we’re still not sure how much power the car will have, and everything is very much up in the air. But you can be sure that we’ll be up extra early on the 12th to get a first glimpse of BMW’s newest pocket rocket.

The BMW 1 Series M Coupe might just be the most highly anticipated debut at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show in January. Numerous spy photos (many by BMW) have revealed much of what the car looks like and the type of equipment it will get, but there has yet to be any official word on the car’s engine.

Believed to be the turbocharged inline-six N54 engine, a leaked photo obtained by the folks at 1addicts reportedly shows that the car, code named “1 M Pyrat” will get 340-hp.

And while that’s hardly news to anyone, the list of data seems to also show that a U.S.-spec version of the car will get an astonishing 451-hp. That seems highly unlikely as the current M3 makes far less than that at 414-hp.

As unlikely as it is that BMW would give the 1M more power than the M3, it might give some credence to rumors that just 2,700 versions of the car will be built, making it one extremely exclusive and impressive machine.

BMW is giving us a slow tease when it comes to the 1 Series M Coupe, and this latest round of photos appears to show the interior of the car. In all honesty, it doesn’t really look different than a regular 1-Series with a black interior, although the seats look a little more aggressively bolstered.

With a 30mm wider track at the front and a 40mm wider track at the rear, the 1 Series M Coupe also benefits from stiffer rubber bushings, stiffer springs and shocks and a tuned up 3.0L Inline 6 with a turbocharger, making it a nice stopgap between a 135i and an M3.

BMW‘s 1 Series M Coupe is one of the brand’s most anticipated models, and a series of carefully orchestrated leaks has only served to whet the appetite of enthusiasts.

The car is set to debut at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show, but BMW has given us some information nuggets ahead of the unveiling. Power will come from a variant of the turbo inline six from the Z4 sDrive35iS, making 340 horsepower through a 6-speed manual transmission.

The best part is that the car will weigh 3300 lbs, ensuring a solid power-to-weight ratio. At $45,000, the 1 Series M Coupe won’t be cheap, but no doubt will be an enticing package for well-heeled enthusiasts not quite ready to step up into the increasingly bloated M3.

BMW‘s upcoming 1 Series M Coupe might be a more affordable performance car from the German automaker, but you’re not going to see them clogging the freeways of LA. Nope, this more affordable M model will be extremely rare with just 2,700 versions of the car being produced.

News of the limited production numbers have just leaked online along with a few other details about the car. For starters it will be a true enthusiasts car with only a manual transmission offered. And just three colors will be offered: Alpine White, Jet Black and Valencia Orange Metallic.

While other details about the car have yet to be confirmed its believed to mimic the M3′s aerodynamics, but with even more aggressive and angled sheetmetal. The front bumper will mimic that of the E92 M3 but with sharper angles, while the fender vents are larger than on previous M cars, helping to accentuate the flared fenders. The side skirts are also similar to those found on the M3, but again are more angular. Also of note is a slightly raised hood, black (Shadowline) kidney grille slats and a ducktail rear spoiler.

As for the engine, BMW is still mum on that aspect, but its believed to be a modified N54 turbocharged inline-six making around 350-hp.

We’ll get all the details when the car debuts at the Detroit Auto Show in January.

Why wait for the official unveiling of the BMW 1 Series M Coupe at the Detroit Auto Show four months from now when you can see it now – thanks to the artistry of Jon Sibal. Designed using BMW teaser images, spy photos and some insider information we’ve been told that this rendering is very close to the real thing.

Shown in a stunning Valencia Metallic Orange the front bumper mimics that of the E92 M3 but with sharper angles, while the fender vents are larger than on previous M cars, helping to accentuate the flared fenders. The side skirts are also similar to those found on the M3, but again are more angular. Also of note is a slightly raised hood, black (Shadowline) kidney grille slats and a ducktail rear spoiler.

And perhaps most exciting is news of a carbon fiber roof, although this item may get cut as BMW tries to cut costs in an effort to make the car as affordable as possible.

Other items of note include white LED angle eye headlights, as well as M3 Competition 19-inch wheels with M3 brakes.

As for the engine, BMW is still mum on that aspect, but its believed to be a modified N54 turbocharged inline-six making around 350-hp.

New video of BMW‘s 1 Series M Coupe has surfaced, and unfortunately, it doesn’t tell us much about the car. The engine note is hard to discern, other than it’s one of BMW’s signature inline six engines, and the interior looks like a pretty standard 1 Series. The current 135i is already a riot, and we can only imagine what more power and a better chassis will do for the baby BMW.

Expect the BMW 1-Series M Coupe to debut at the North American International Auto Show in January, with deliveries in Europe starting in Spring 2011.
