We’ve recently spotted quite a few BMWs being tested in the snow, and it makes sense, the German company wants to make sure its vehicles can handle any climate. Which brings us to these spy photos of a BMW 4 Series convertible getting it on without a top, in the cold.
Our Spy photographers have been getting one heck of a workout this week, and are delivering the goods every day. Today we see the beefed up BMW M4 Coupe. Continue Reading…
We already have a pretty good idea of what the BMW 4-Series will look like, thanks to a conservative concept that was shown off during the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. And now we’re now getting a more polished idea of what to expect when the coupe finally lands.
BMW garnered plenty of attention with its 4 Series Coupe Concept at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, and the production model is currently being put through its paces as it gets ready to make its debut.
Foreshadowing what the BMW 4-Series Coupe will look like when it hits production, the BMW 4-Series Coupe Concept debuted today at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.
Sitting right in plain view at the Detroit Auto Show is BMW‘s latest concept, which will foreshadow what the upcoming 4-series coupe will look like.
The newest iteration of the 3 Series Coupe, officially dubbed the 4 Series by BMW, unofficially broke cover this morning, and now the brand has released a large set of official images and some additional info on the new 4 Series.
While the BMW 4 Series has already been revealed for the most part in spy photos, today shots have surfaced of the newest 4 Series variant: the Gran Coupe.
BMW is working on its own compact, more affordable four-door coupe to rival the likes of the Audi A5 Sportback and the upcoming Mercedes-Benz CLA.
Forgoing its sometimes confusing naming structure, BMW decided to move its coupes away from the 3 Series badge, referring to future versions as a 4 Series instead.
Ever vigilant, our sleuthing photographers caught spy photos of the new BMW 4 Series convertible tucking its top away.
Thanks to the latest pictures, we know that the German automaker will be sticking with it’s convertible hard top instead of cloth. The new 4 Series is expected to source engines from the proven 328i and 335i which use a 240-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four cylinder and turbo 302-hp 3.0-liter inline six cylinder respectively.
A model without the camo is expected to surface sometime toward the end of this year, meaning we should see some official pictures soon. If nothing else, we’ve got the car’s scheduled debut at September’s Paris Auto Show to stick with.
For now have a look through our gallery below showing the full conversion sequence.

Having just launched the all-new 2012 3 Series, BMW will soon look to add the coupe and convertible versions to its lineup, with one big change from the past. No we’re not talking about a turbocharged 4-cylinder, but rather the fact that from now on the 3 Series two door models will be referred to as the 4 Series. This is in keeping with a larger BMW plan to have all four-door sedans receive odd number badges, while coupes will get the even number treatment.
As these new spy photos show, don’t expect a dramatic change from the past model, with a similar silhouette. The biggest change will be up front with a more pointed grill reminiscent of the Z4.
As mentioned, a base 428i model will now come with a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder making 245 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, while a top-level 435i will get BMW’s turbo inline-six for 306 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque.

BMW is reportedly moving ahead with plans to modify its current naming structure, starting with the next-generation 1 Series. That car will be front-drive only, while what we currently know as the 1 Series (the Coupe and Convertible) will be rebadged as 2 Series models. But that’s not all.
Starting with the next-generation 3 Series, the two-door models will instead wear 4 Series badges. This new badge strategy is already in place in BMW’s upper range of models with the 5 Series sedans, the 6 Series coupe and convertible and the 7 Series sedan.
There will, however, be one exception: BMW’s M division. While we wondered what would become of the M3′s fate when this new first emerged several weeks back, the latest info suggests the current M naming strategy will stick around. This makes sense from a certain branding perspective, but it also seems idiotic by another, with the M-tuned 4 Series being called the M3. Strange.

Brand equity can take decades to build up. It’s the sign of a business model that worked and has continued to work. So when you’ve got a name like the Big Mac you don’t just toss it aside. That is, unless you’re BMW. A new report suggests the German automaker will re-badge its 3 Series as the 4 Series.
Surely the folks from Bavaria haven’t lost all their German sensibilities you must be asking yourself? And you’d be right. The 3 Series sedan will in fact carry on badge. The coupe and convertible models will, however, become 4 Series models.
This fits with BMW’s 5 Series and 6 Series division, plus it apes similar badging strategies by Audi, with the A4/A5 and Mercedes-Benz with the C-Class/E-Class Coupe.
In addition, BMW will also adjust its numbering system for the 1 Series. As has been reported in the past, the hatchback models will retain the 1 Series badge (and will likely only be front-wheel drive), while the next-generation 1 Series coupe and convertible will instead be 2 Series versions.
A carefully thought out marketing strategy perhaps, but has BMW tossed out one good brand in the process? What about the M3?

BMW is planning to expand its range yet again, with reports of an upcoming 4-Series lineup that would compete against the Audi A5 Sportback in the burgeoning sporty hatchback segment.
Rumors have been flying about a possible 3-Series GT, a complement to the crossover-like 5-Series GT (shown above), but this may in fact be part of the supposed 4-Series models, which would include a coupe, sedan and even a convertible.
For now, the rumors are merely conjecture, and any vehicle wouldn’t arrive until 2013 at the earliest, but with the German marques making such a push to fill every possible niche market, count this one as more likely to happen than not.
