Missed out on the limited edition Chevy Camaro Intimidator SS when it first came out? Here’s your chance to get your hands on one that’s basically new with just 48 miles on the odometer and selling for $49,900.

Only 83 of these special Camaros were made, commissioned by NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt and built by GMMG. The vehicle was originally owned by NASCAR president Mike Helton, where it sat peacefully for 11 years logging barely any miles on the road. The Onyx Black exterior is accented by a Silver stripe on the showroom fresh outside.

Under the hood is an LS1 V8 mated to a Tremec six-speed manual transmission packing 381-hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. GMMG fitted its Posi-traction rear end with 3.73 gears on the Intimidator SS models while suspension and handling has been upgraded thanks to double A-arm front and three-link rear suspension and Eibach springs.

The sleek Camaro rolls on 17-inch American Racing 200S wheels in a Magnetallic Gray finish wrapped with 275/40 Goodyear Eagle F1 rubber. This particular vehicle is number-43 of 83 and comes complete with the original window sticker.

The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 was designed for the drag strip, and is taking a spot in the 11 second club after posting a quarter mile time of 11.93 seconds.

The ZL1 was put through a testing process of 1,000 drag strip style launches by Chevy engineers to make sure that its components were ready for all the abuse the car would take under those conditions. The 11 second run was completed by a fully stock Camaro ZL1 from the factory, which is capable of a top speed of 184 mph and a 0-60 time of four seconds. 30 percent of the components were modified compared to an SS model, most of which were designed by Chevy engineers specifically for drag racing.

“We know many of customers will take their ZL1 to the drag strip,” said Gordon Rojewski, driveline development engineer.

A standard rear differential cooler, tweaked suspension to accommodate taller tire sidewalls and a unique performance traction management system designed to minimize tire slip are among the changes that were done to the ZL1, all for the benefit of the cars drag strip time.

While the ZL1 isn’t quite at the standard of the COPO Camaro, it is street legal, and ready to run an 11-second quarter mile straight from the factory.

Each year thousands of Chevrolet Camaro enthusiasts assemble at for Camaro5 Fest. Last year, the American automaker decided to join the caravan of 150 fifth-generation Camaros in Phoenix, Ariz., to capture it all on film.

With such a rich heritage in the domestic sports car world, the Camaro has one of the most avid fan bases and Chevy wanted to shine the spotlight on the heart of the Camaro nation by learning more about the people from across the U.S. who drive them.

The mini-documentary shown below is called Alter Ego and focuses on Camaro owners, their cars, and just how versatile the machine is in all forms of motorsports. This year, Camaro5 Fest will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana from August 2 through 4.

Friday’s Barrett-Jackson Auction saw the very first 45th Anniversary Edition Chevrolet Camaro Convertible sold. The car brought in $150,000, which will be donated to the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute.

While a regular 45th Anniversary Package is just a $1,375 add-on for most Camaros, this auction was not for just any old Camaro with the package. The vehicle sold during the auction had the VIN #001.

The 45th Anniversary Package includes a special Carbon Flash Metallic paint, along with 20-inch wheels, a unique stripe package, a custom interior with black and red leather seats, custom fog lights, taillights, and 45th Anniversary badging.

Additionally, this 45th Anniversary Camaro Convertible is a 2SS model, meaning it has the powerful 6.2-liter V8 and six-speed manual transmission, making the whole car one special beast.

The Karmanos National Cancer Institute is one of 40 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the United States. Karmanos strives to prevent, detect and eradicate all forms of cancer. The General Motors Foundation is a long time supporter of Karmanos and has donated up to $6 million in the past 15 years.

Earlier this month, Chevy halted production on its Camaro ZL1 for a “quality assessment” which appears to have been a potential software issue that the American automaker wanted to assess and deal with if necessary.

It appears that production is back on track now, as Chevy has emailed its ZL1 customers announcing that the hold has been lifted. The customers whose cars had already been produced but placed on hold, will see their vehicles arrive dealerships in the next two to three weeks. For the rest of the orders, production has resumed and estimated delivery times are to come from the American automaker.

Chevy also stated that they need about two weeks to determine remaining ZL1 allocation and distribution.

As if there weren’t enough possibilities for the Chevrolet Camaro already, the automaker announced today that it will introduce a new 1LE performance package to further augment the already-muscular Camaro SS coupe.

“With the 2013 model year, Camaro offers something for almost every driver, including: the 323-horsepower, 30-mpg 2LS; the all-new, 580-horsepower supercharged ZL1 convertible; the COPO Camaro for drag-racing; and the new 1LE for amateur track days,” said John Fitzpatrick, Camaro marketing manager. “We expect the range of choices, and enhancements for 2013, will help Camaro remain America’s most-popular sports car.”

Popular it is, given the recent announcement that between the Camaro and Corvette, Chevrolet sports cars control a third of the U.S. market segment. As Fitzpatrick said, the automaker hopes to continue boosting that control by offering a growing line of specialized cars.

That’s where the 1LE comes in: it’s a Camaro SS coupe with unique gearing, suspension tuning, and tires that make the car track-ready to the tune of more than 1 g in lateral acceleration. Chevrolet says the latest iteration of its pony car ran a sub three-minute lap at Virginia International Raceway, where we recently tested the new ZL1 Camaro.

“The Camaro 1LE combines the best elements of the SS and ZL1 to take road-racing performance to a whole new level,” said Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer. “That the 1LE breaks the three-minute lap at VIR puts it in the upper echelon of performance cars. That it starts under $40,000 makes the Camaro 1LE one of the most affordable, most capable track-day cars offered by any manufacturer.”

Perhaps more interesting than performance specifications alone, Chevrolet is taking preemptive measures to ensure customers have the chance to actually enjoy their purchase. The trouble with buying a high-power pony car is that owners seldom have legal outlets for all that power. Thankfully, the automaker thought of that and is already working on Touring Class competition approval from the SCCA with the 1LE package. Once accomplished, that classification will mean the new package is a race-ready track car form the factory, and for a bargain price.

Aside from the modifications listed above, the 1LE comes with a litany of ZL1-spec parts including a stronger fuel pump, 20×10-inch aluminum wheels and improved suspension components. For the most part, modifications that make the 1LE are in place to improve traction, so Chevrolet also packaged higher-capacity rear-axle half shafts to cope with the stress that comes with added grip.

Originally introduced in 1988, the 1LE package returns this fall with the 2013 Camaro release.

GALLERY: 2012 ZL1 Camaro

Back in 2009, Kevin Morgan Designs debuted its custom Chevrolet Camaro Trans Am at SEMA. Now you can have your very own.

Based on a 2010 Chevy Camaro, the Kevin Morgan Designs team morphs it into a Trans Am reminiscent of one from the good ‘ol “Smokey and the Bandit” days. The vehicle up for sale is number-8 from Morgan’s collection and is only the second time that one of these newly-styled and licensed Trans Am are available in the used-car market. Morgan claims that the first one sold in excess of $115,000.

Upgrades to the Trans Am include Eibach lowering springs, staggered 20-inch KM Forged T6 wheels with Pirelli P-Zero tires, the full body kit to transform the Camaro body underneath, a custom TA graphics package, embroidered head rests in the interior, and custom aluminum dash and door panel inserts.

Kevin Morgan is also offering optional upgrades to whoever ends up purchasing the Trans Am. Options include Katzkin custom seats, a Hurst Shifter, Procharger Supercharger, Hellion Twin Turbo System, or even an LS7 or LSX 454 engine swap. Pricing wasn’t listed on the auction for the available options, but we’ll assume they’re fair market price – especially if you end up paying upwards of $100,000 for the vehicle alone.

The Sareni United / YACO Motorsport Chevy Camaro GT3 race car is pure awesome. We thought the final version debuted earlier this year, but the team did some last-minute tweaks to make it look better than ever.

Even though the changes aren’t extensive, the Camaro GT3 race car now sports a large carbon fiber splitter and several canards on the front bumper, no doubt enhancing its aerodynamics. It has also gotten some sponsor decals on its door plate where its race number will reside. The short exhaust pipes still run out behind the front wheels and the same big black spoiler sits on the rear.

Under the hood is a 7.9L V8 mated to a Holinger gear box packing 650 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. We can’t wait to see how it does in competition.

This year’s SEMA Show is distant on the calendar, but it’s never too early for builders to release sneak previews of what they’re working on.

Swedish car designer Bo Zolland will be putting his spin on a classic 1968 Chevrolet Camaro for this year’s show, and judging by the pictures, it’s going to be a real winner.

Zolland, who recently renamed his firm from Vizualtech to Zolland Design AB, is previously known for his Jaguar E-Type Growler Concept, that is heading off to limited production as the Lyonheart K. But unlike the classy, clean bodylines we see in the Jaguar concept, this Camaro is all-American mean muscle.

Clearly the custom Camaro will sport a nice widebody with a sleek coat of black paint. It appears that the doors were cut down to lower the beltline; which is contrary to what we see with conventional hot-rod builders that tend to chop the roof of their cars. Nonetheless, from what little we see of this Camaro, it’s already looking great.

Under the hood will be a LS3 V8, supercharged of course, while the factory brakes and suspension have been swapped out for some more modern counterparts. We can’t wait to see this creation in person this year in Las Vegas.

St. Patrick’s Day was originally intended to celebrate one of Ireland’s patron saints and the advent of Christianity in the country, though it has essentially drowned in a sea of green beer and debauchery.

Nevertheless, Chevrolet is getting into the Irish spirit with its green cars, in more than one sense, taking time out to remind people of its emerald vehicles in time for the holiday.

The Hot Wheels Camaro Concept debuted with a green metallic paint job that would make a leprechaun jealous. It is based on the the dazzling green Spectraflame hot wheels toy, which was one of the original 16 hot wheels cars ever produced back in 1968.

The Chevrolet Spark debuted with an optional Jalapeno paint job which represents the Irish spirit. The Spark is a four door five passenger small hatch which also promotes green driving thanks to its fuel economy.

Green can come in many variations, and fuel sipping cars promote green-eco friendly living. Chevy offers five vehicles with 37mpg fuel rating or better, the five being the Malibu Eco, Sonic, Cruze compact, Cruze Eco and Volt.

Whatever your flavor is, there’s something for you at Chevrolet, or at least that’s what the company would like people to believe. Just avoid mixing green cars and beer.

The Chevrolet COPO Camaro is a purpose built vehicle meant for one thing: Drag Racing. The COPO Camaro debuted at the 2011 SEMA show as a concept, and since then we have heard little of the drag racers fate, but today Chevrolet announced that they will be building 69 of the performance driven cars in 2012. 

Meant for the NHRA Stock Eliminator and Super Stock classes, the COPO Camaro will be the fastest Camaro built to date. There will be three engine options available for the drag racing Camaro, a naturally aspirated 7.0L V8, a 5.3L V8 featuring a 2.9L supercharger, and another 5.3L V8, this one featuring a 4.0L supercharger.

“The COPO Camaro is going to shake up the sportsman drag racing ranks this summer and give Chevy fans a great new reason to cheer on the Bowtie,” said Jim Campbell, the General Motors U.S. vice president of performance vehicles and motorsports.

The COPO Camaro is designed to meet NHRA specifications with a solid axle and full chrome moly roll cage. It will come outfitted with a Powerglide automatic transmission designed for drag racing and be available in five colors: Flat Black, Summit White, Victory Red, Silver Ice Metallic and Ashen Gray Metallic. This drag raced focused car will not even be street legal, making it even more niche.

The COPO Camaro will start at $89,000, but don’t hold out for one, a third party company was brought in to distribute all 69 cars to specific buyers to ensure a fair process was used when selling the cars.

Chevrolet is laying claim to sports car bragging rights this year after accounting for more than a third of total U.S. sports car sales with their Camaro and Corvette.

“We challenge any company to bring two cars to compete with the Corvette ZR1 and Camaro ZL1, dollar for dollar,” General Motors North America president Mark Reuss said. “They will discover what enthusiasts already know – that Chevrolet Camaro and Corvette are the world’s best performance cars for the money.”

The Camaro outsold its closest competition, the Ford Mustang, by almost 18,000 cars last year with a total 88,249 units.

According to the company, that figure is expected to grow when the ZL1 Camaro goes on sale this month. The ZL1 is the fastest production Camaro ever built: It sports a 6.2-liter supercharged LSA V8 that makes a road-ripping 580 hp. We’ll have our own verdict on the ZL1 soon — we’re out taking our first drive today.

Chevrolet recorded a 2:52.4 lap time in the ZL1 Camaro around the Grand Course at the Virginia International Raceway, which they say is more than six seconds faster than Ford’s Shelby GT500.

Similarly, the ZR1 Corvette is the fastest production car to come from Chevrolet. Its 6.2-liter LS9 V8 makes 638 hp and 604 lb-ft of torque, allowing for a  2:45.6 lap time.

While it’s sometimes difficult to believe statistics and figures released by a company when they did the testing, we can say a few things with authority.

First, the ZR-1 Corvette and ZL-1 Camaro are both stupid-quick machines that compete in the top level of their segment. Second, they’re both a hell of a lot of fun to drive. Third, given their excellent price-to-power ratio, you’re probably not going to care that the sale numbers suggest you’re likely to see someone else driving “your car” on the road.
