Disney’s Pixar has a magical way of not only touching the hearts of children, but also the hearts of adults through their movies. The movie Cars and its sequel Cars 2 are of course our favorites, and Disney California Adventure is adding a Cars-themed ride to their amusement park.
The attraction Cars Land will open to the public on June 15th, but the team at the amusement park is hard at work testing the Radiator Springs Racers seven days a week, mostly at night. But Disney decided to release a sneak preview of what we can expect when the ride goes live, and it appears they’ve done a fantastic job bringing Radiator Springs to life.
Clearly this will be one of their most heavily anticipated openings for both children and adults, considering how successful the Cars franchise has become over the years.
Watch the test run through Cars Land after the break.

It’s not too early to start thinking about Christmas shopping – it is October, after all. And getting a head start on the must-have list for toys this holiday season are Disney-Pixar Cars 2 AppMATes, a line of toys that digitally come to life when used with an iPad.
The brainchild of Disney and Spin Master, AppMATes feature your favorite Disney-Pixar Cars 2 characters. Available in packs of two, these toy cars come equipped with sensors on its base that identifies them to the iPad. To start these toy’s engines, just download the free app and put the cars on the iPad screen. You child is taken to Radiator Springs, where they can explore, race, and perform secret missions as they move their car around.
A pack of two Disney-Pixar Cars 2 AppMATes costs $19.99 and will be on store shelves starting in October (you’ll find them at Apple stores and other major retailers). The toys themselves may be inexpensive, but you’ll have to shell out cash for the iPad. To see how AppMATes works, watch the video after the jump.

The Cars franchise is about more that just marketing and merchandising. In fact, the characters of Cars 2 (in theaters June 24) has teamed up with the Department of Transportation (DOT), to help fight distracted driving with a new public service ad.
Staring Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater, the 30-second PSA is called, “Only the bad guys drive distracted.” Basically, it reminds drivers of a very important message: “No calling, no texting. Nothing that can take away your focus.”
This PSA can be seen in more than a dozen countries and various languages. As well, DOT is working on using the ad as part of the Make Roads Safe campaign for global road safety.
This isn’t the first time the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) has worked with Disney on driving safety campaigns. You may remember the re-release of Cinderella in 2005 urging parents to fit their children properly in booster seats.
You can watch the Cars 2 PSA after the jump.
The countdown is on for the premiere of Cars 2 (in theaters June 24) and to get you all revved up, you can see two of the main character races… in real life!
If you get a chance to go to the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK, which runs June 30 to July 3, you can see Lightning McQueen and Finn McMissile (the new secret agent, voiced by Sir Michael Caine) racing against each other.
Although we here in North American get to see it before the Brits (it doesn’t open in the UK until July 22), this even should keep them in the Cars spirit until the momentous date. It would be cool to see these two Disney/Pixar life-size celebrity race cars up close and personal, and if you’re in the UK or just visiting during that time, you should go check it out. You can find out more about the Goodwood Festival of Speed by visiting the website.

Another day, another themed product push from Disney. With the release of Cars 2 just around the corner (June 24), Disney is pumping out the licensed products just as fast as we can buy them up. And today, it’s a cool set of earbuds we wouldn’t mind getting our hands on.
Super cute and cleverly designed, these earbuds come out of Lightning McQueen’s retracting front wheels, while the headphone jack can be found in the gas pump in the rear. And they’re affordable too. For just $11.99, you can pick up a pair for the kids and for yourself. Toys R Us is selling the Lightning McQueen earbuds, so race on over to the site to order yours.
Thanks to Kate and William’s recent wedding, the royals have never been hotter. They seem to be popping up everywhere – including the new Cars 2 movie.
Coming to theaters June 24th, Disney’s Cars 2 will feature The Queen (voiced by Vanessa Redgrave) and Prince Wheeliam. These new characters get the royal treatment. The Queen is a regal old Rolls-Royce, outfitted with a royal blue-and-white two-tone paint job and topped with a crown on her roof, while Prince Wheelium is a sleek Bentley Continental GT. They make their appearance as the World Grand Prix takes to the streets of London, England, where they preside over the finish line with Sir Miles Axlerod.
With Cars 2 hitting theatres June 24, Disney has announced the latest racer to get his own character in the highly anticipate sequel – Lewis Hamilton.
Hamilton’s character will be sporting a McLaren MP4-12C-like body and a British Racing Green paint scheme. And the British F1 racer is pretty pumped about his part, as he took to Twitter to announce it: “Hey guys, big news — I’m going to be in @DisneyPixar’s Cars2! Take a look at my car… This is wicked;)”
Says Pixar on the addition: “The celebrated native Brit continues to bring an exceptional work ethic and soft-spoken confidence to the race course, where his extraordinary achievements speak for themselves via a spotless track record on the junior and professional circuits.”
In the sequel to the popular Pixar film, Lighting McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) and Mater the tow truck (voiced by Larry the Cable Guy) leave home to take part in the first ever World Grand Prix. Other Brit stars set to feature in the film include Michael Caine, Vanessa Redgrave and Eddie Izzard.
The countdown until the new Cars 2 movie is underway, and Disney is introducing us to a new character in the sequel. Meet Rip Clutchgoneski, an LMP-style racer from the former European colony of New Rearendia.
In the movie, which will be out in theatres on June 24, Rip is making a name for himself on the racing circuit and has made his way to the World Grand Prix, thanks to some impressive and improbable qualifying wins. He’s got some mad skills, but will they be enough for him to bring honor back to New Rearendia?
Are you excited to meet the new characters of Disney/Pixar’s Cars 2? Will you be going to see it opening weekend?
It’s almost time for Disney’s Cars 2 to hit theaters, and to get you revved up for the action, the house of mouse has released a brand new trailer (which you can watch after the jump) and a bunch of stills.
Not to give away any spoilers from the movie, we do have some additional deails for the sequel. The group of friends from Radiator Springs lives the small-town life behind as they go to race in the World Grand Prix. Along the way, they get getting caught up in an international espionage ring, and it’s up to Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) and Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) to save the day.
Are you going to see the movie this summer?
With any Disney movie comes an onslaught of merchandise to go along with the release, and the upcoming Cars 2 film is no exception.
Of course, the main character, Lightning McQueen, voiced by Owen Wilson, is front and center in this new push of toys. We’re not sure if your kids will be amazed or freaked out by the 1:55 scale car that talks, wobbles and shakes. What’s different about this toy is that its mouth actually moves when it talks, while his eyes move side to side. Just pat him on the head and he’ll always have something witty to say.
This toy also drives itself. He can go around in circles, backward and forward, all while chatting away. We’re not sure if this is pretty cool or gives us Christine-esque heebie jeebies. We may need an office full of people around before we play with this car. You can watch him in action after the jump. And let us know – does it give you the creeps or are we just wusses?
When your kids are driving you up the wall, give them a toy that will keep them busy and entertained for hours. There’s a new remote control Cars 2 toy that your kids can drive up the walls instead.
The Zero Gravity Finn McMissile car (a new character in the form of a spyster whip that will be starring in the Cars 2 movie and voiced by Michael Caine) doesn’t let a little thing like a wall stand in its way. It goes from the floor to the wall without breaking a sweat.
You can pick one up in May for $35. Until then, you’ll just have to find other ways to occupy the kids. You can watch it in action after the jump.
Hitch a ride to Disney World for the theme parks newest ride – Cars. Set to be opening in 2012, the ride will follow the release of the new movie, Cars 2, which will hit theatres in the summer of 2011.
The picture above is a sneak peak at Disney’s California Adventure Park latest addition. And the park just isn’t sticking with a car-themed ride – it’s also planning a whole section of the park dedicated to the Pixar film, which will open around the same time as the movie release. Perhaps you should start making your travel plans for next summer now. It’s the perfect opportunity to unleash your inner child while fueling your need for speed.

As a bunch of grown men (and women) we’ll admit to being as excited as an eight-year-old for the release of Pixar’s Cars 2. Then again, it’ll be hard to live up to the original, a movie that was as much for adults as for children, with a deep message about greed and the cost of progress, not to mention more auto-enthusiast jokes than you can shake a torque wrench at.
Set to hit theaters next summer, Disney and Pixar have just released the first trailer for the movie staring none-other than Lightning Mcqueen and his sidekick Mader.
Check out the trailer after the jump:
