The Chinese market love extended-wheelbase variants of luxury vehicles – mostly because many of its buyers prefer to be driven around in their cars rather than doing the driving themselves. Looking at just how popular Rolls-Royce EWB variants are for their Ghost and Phantom leaves no surprise that other luxury automakers such as Infiniti are lengthening their cars for the Chinese.

The luxury Japanese automaker will be following in the footsteps of rival Audi A6L, BMW 5Li, Mercedes-Benz E300L, and Volvo S80L. Infiniti will be offered a stretched version of its M37 sedan, lengthening it by 5.9 inches for the Chinese market. Unfortunately for Infiniti though, the M37 isn’t built in China unlike its competitors variants, so it could dampen its chances of success.

Nonetheless, it’s almost a necessary move for Infiniti in order to capture any sort of the market in China. The extended-wheelbase M37 is expected to debut at the Beijing Auto Show in April, and chances are a hybrid version will come shortly after.
