Every year at the official launch of the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the “Most Spirited Getaway,” award is handed out to the car and driver that impress the crowds most when leaving the start line at the beginning of the famous hill climb.
In 2012, for the second consecutive year, that award has gone to a Jaguar, in this case an original 1984 Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR) XJS, one just five such machines built for touring car racing.
Thanks to its 485 hp race spec 5.3-liter V12 and side exiting exhaust, the distinctive green and white TWR works livery XJS, driven by Alex Buncombe, made a pretty memorable departure from the start line and was joined on the hill by another TWR Jaguar, in this case an XJR-9, the 7.0-liter monster that won Le Mans back in 1988.
A previous record holder on the Goodwood climb, having run the course in just 44 seconds, driver Justin Law is looking to set yet another best time with the XJR-9LM this year. The 2012 Goodwood Festival of Speed takes place from June 28, July 1st.
