Congratulations, you’re all grown up! At this point in life you’ve probably made it through college with more than an associate’s degree in the field of interpretive dance; you’ve more than likely claimed a life partner that’s the opposite gender and of breeding age and, consequently, you’ve manufactured a genetic replica or two. You’re going places, and you need a suitable vehicle for this exciting new lifestyle.
Automotive Hollywood icons battle it out
We are back with this week’s installment of AutoGuide’s newest, interactive weekly feature ‘Commute, Toy or Destroy’. But this week it’s different… very different.
The story of John Z. DeLorean reads like a movie script, and that is probably why Hollywood is looking to make a movie about it.
The man behind such greats as the original Pontiac GTO and the Firebird, went on to make his own car, and with a little help from Government funding, started the factory in Northern Ireland of all places.
However, money was still tight and to raise capital for his struggling car company, DeLorean was caught in a drug trafficking scandal, from which he was later acquitted.
Despite the troubles, the DMC-12 did go into production, and also became the star of one of the biggest movie franchises ever, the “Back to the Future” trilogy.
Now it looks like a movie on the life and times of Mr. DeLorean are in the works. According to Forbes magazine, the movie idea has been kicking around since 1997, but now it seems to be picking up speed. Stephen Wynne, the current boss of DeLorean Motor Company (which is now based out of Texas), has hinted talks with none other than George Clooney to play the lead role. A big name like Clooney would certainly help move the project along, and he does also have more than a glancing resemblance to Mr. DeLorean.
Everything seems to still be in speculation stage at the moment, but lets hope this story makes it to the big screen in the near future.
Following in the wake of the Nike Dunk 6.0 DeLorean Shoes, die-hard “Back to the Future” fans will want to back up their hard drive with the DeLorean Time Machine Hard Drive.
The DeLorean Time Machine Hard Drive is a 1:18 scale replica of the DMC-12 made famous in the sci-fi trilogy. It comes with working gull wing doors and hood, a Mr. Fusion reactor, 1950s wheels and rims, and a 500GB Seagate HDD found in the trunk. You can buy it for $250 here.
You don’t have to go back in time to pick up a pair of these sci-fi kicks. Just in time to make our Christmas Wish List, the brand-new Nike Dunk 6.0 DeLorean shoes will be on sale starting Friday, November 26.
Worth the long wait in line on Black Friday, the Dunk 6.0 DeLorean shoes are modeled after the iconic DMC-12 featured in the movie, Back to the Future. They feature featuring a matte silver, no-sew constructed upper body – sleek and cool, just like the car. But that’s not all – the shoe’s sole gets its inspiration from the DMC-12′s distinct taillights, and the tongue is adorned with the Belfast stamp (the DeLorean was originally produced in the Irish factory). Last but not least, the shoes are stored in a gullwing-esque box.
About 1,000 pairs will be available worldwide, and the will run you about $90. They will only be available at a few select outlets. Don’t worry, if they do sell out, you can always hop in a DeLorean and go back to a time when you’re the first in line to buy them.
