Ford is doing a little turn on the catwalk – the automaker is showing off how its car parts can also be used as a fashionable ensemble.

Part of a celebratory month-long event celebrating 100 years of Ford in Britain, the company commissioned cool and stylish fashion items including a dress and necklace made out of Ford car parts. The pieces for this fashion shoot were designed by Scottish Designer of the Year nominee Judy Clark (who worked with the late Alexander McQueen) and jewellery designer Katherine Hawkins.

“My reaction when they approached me was one of delight to be a part of such a unique project as it’s very different to what I normally do,” said Clark . “I would say that the inspiration for the dress was taken from the Edwardian period and I actually started to design the dress before the car parts arrived.”

The necklace designed by Hawkins was inspired by the iconic movie Metropolis. “When the box of car parts arrived, I didn’t really know what to expect,” said Hawkins. “It doesn’t help that I can’t actually drive so at first I didn’t know what the parts were for! But once I got them spread out to see how they look and sit and how I could work with them, the idea came very quickly and I was able to use really cool metals, plastics and rubbery bits!”

Not too long ago, a beauty contest in the sub-$20k segment would seem like a competition for the most attractive bar of soap. But now, Kia‘s current line-up will make you look twice.

Men’s lifestyle and fashion magazine Esquire has announced the Kia Optima as the “Most Gorgeous Car Under $20K.” Editors were especially impressed by the South Korean automaker’s “clean and inspiring” design. Moreover, numerous other automotive publications have made positive comparisons of its exterior to the more upscale Audi.

VP of Kia America marketing & communication Michael Sprague says, “Esquire defines and shapes men’s style and fashion in today’s contemporary culture, and this recognition further validates Optima’s tremendous value proposition with its unmatched combination of world-class design, advanced technology, and fun-to-drive performance. The stunning design and value of the Optima has significantly increased awareness, perception and consideration for the Kia brand…”

More than just a pretty face, the 2011 Optima is available with luxury and technology including a satnav/audio system with Sirius XM radio and live traffic, Bluetooth capability, USB and auxiliary input, and steering wheel integrated voice controls.

Fashion takes its inspiration from the unlikeliest of places. In fact, one clothing designer’s newest collection takes its cue from luxury cars’ interiors.

British fashion designer and the creative director of Celine, Phoebe Philo’s Autumn/Winter 2011/12 collection for the famous fashion house draws inspiration from the interiors of luxury cars. In her line of coats, slim pants and dresses, she uses leather and geometic patterns to showcase her admiration for luxe automobiles. The result is a fashion line that is very feminine while hinting at subtle masculine undertones – perfect for wearing while you’re behind the wheel of your luxury vehicle.

Using materials such as linen, vintage tweeds, leather and crinkled fabric, this collection is dedicated to modern and sophisticated women who love to be draped in elegance. Celine’s Autumn/Winter 2011/12 collection, which lit up the runway at Paris Fashion Week, also features matching accessories that perfectly accentuate this clothing line.
