Italian exotic automaker Ferrari has confirmed that the future of its V12 engines is safe, thanks to hybrid technology that will assist them in hitting CO2 targets.
At the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, Ferrari unveiled its gorgeous F12 Berlinetta sporting the first in a new generation of V12 engines. But with stricter CO2 regulations from the government coming into effect, Ferrari has been forced to consider alternative engine layouts to its V12. Thankfully, the technology from their F1-derived KERS system has allowed them to keep the V12 in the lineup.
Ferrari boss Amedeo Felisa recently said in an interview that the technology will be “first and foremost to introduce a green factor to our cars,” but the more interesting point is when Felisa said “it is possible that this technology will be on all Ferraris.” He went on to suggest that this hybrid technology could be standard on Ferraris, not something that will be offered simply as an option.
We are expected to see the new V12 hybrid variant in the next-generation Enzo which will sport a mid-mounted V12. Ferrari still hasn’t thrown out the idea of looking at six-cylinder engines for its future.

Ferrari‘s 612 Scaglietti has always been the odd man out in the Ferrari lineup. More of a grand touring car than any of the other F-cars, the odd looks, four seat configuration and lower profile than the other models, the Scaglietti is a rare sight, even among Ferraris, for all the wrong reasons. In fact, it’s the only Ferrari you can walk into a dealer and buy for MSRP.
The Scaglietti seems to be important enough to Ferrari that it will get a replacement. A heavily camouflaged prototype was spied tooling around Fiorano, near the Ferrari factory, and the sound of a screaming V12 is unmistakable. We can’t wait.
