Going, going, gone! If you waited to order a Special Edition Fiat 500 in Canada yesterday, you’re out of luck. This model is sold out – after just 12 hours!

Chrysler Canada offered the Fiat 500 Prima Edizione models to the public yesterday (November 23) at one minute after midnight, and were completely sold out in 12 hours. There were only 500 limited edition vehicles for sale, each with a unique numbered badge, and had to be secured with a $500 deposit.

“I don’t think Game Seven of the Stanley Cup Finals between the Leafs and the Canadians would sell out this fast,” said Reid Bigland, President and CEO of Chrysler Canada. “Frankly, this just underscores the interest Canadians have in a youthful, stylish and highly fuel-efficient car. The 2008 European car of the year, the Fiat 500, is just that.”

Available in three colors: Bianco (White), Rosso (Red) and Grigio (Gray), the  Fiat 500 Prima Edizione is offered with two equipment levels and come equipped with a 1.4-liter MultiAir engine and a manual five-speed transmission.

Production of the Fiat 500 starts in December and the lucky 500 who secured one of these models can pick it up at the Canadian Fiat dealerships in early 2011.

Next week Fiat will officially debut the U.S.-spec version of its new 500 minicar. And in honor of Fiat’s official return to America the Italian automaker will initially offer the car in three colors: red, white and… grey? (Close enough).

The initial offering of 500s, called the Prima Edizione, will be available in one of the three shades, which sound much nicer in Italian: Rosso, Bianco and Grigio. Fiat is then expected to announce numerous other colors after, and we have to think some special paint styles will be available: red, white and green anyone?

We’ll get our first look at the cars and all the official U.S. specs next week at the LA Auto Show and you can follow along with coverage starting November 17th. Until then, check out our LA Auto Show Preview here.

And just like that, Fiat has sold out all 500 of their limited edition Fiat 500 Prima Edizione models in the United States. We already knew that the Fiat 500 would be a hit in America, and now this just properly solidifies that thought, with this special edition model being offered to existing Fiat owners who have helped keep the brand’s image alive in North America. Additional Fiat 500 models will be available to order starting in early 2011.

The Prima Edizione was offered in three different colors: Blanco White, Grigio Gray and Rosso Red. It sports Fiat’s 1.4L MultiAir four-cylinder engine with a manual transmission. “The Fiat Cinquecento Prima Edizione was developed especially with the Fiat fans in mind,” said Laura Soave, Head of Fiat North America. “It’s important that the Fiat enthusiasts and fans are among the first to receive their very own Fiat 500 Prima Edizione special edition vehicles, as they share the same excitement about the brand’s presence in North America.”

We can’t wait to see the iconic Italian car buzzing around our local freeways.

Twenty-Eight years is a long time in anybody’s book, but that’s how long it’s been since you could buy a new Fiat on U.S. soil. However, with the much anticipated return of the marque to North America, spearheaded by the new Cinquecento (500), the company decided to give enthusiasts who’ve been keeping the spirit of the marque alive over here, the chance to purchase their own collectible edition of the cheeky new 500.

At the annual Club Fiat-Lancia Unlimited gathering in Asheville, North Carolina, also known as the ‘Fiat Freakout’ the Italian company brought along a ‘Fiat Mobile Experience’ display which included a merchandise store and a cafe with complimentary gelato, cappuccino and expresso. However, that evening the company went a step further when Laura Soave, appointed head of Fiat’s North American operations, made an exclusive offer at the club’s dinner party. Said offer was the chance for Fiat enthusiasts to reserve an example of the Cinquecento Prima Edizione, of which (perhaps appropriately) only 500 copies will be made for U.S. consumption.

Each Prima Edizione will be finished in one of three exterior colors – Bianco (white), Rosso (red) or Grigio (gray). All will be equipped with a 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine and manual gearbox, plus will feature a unique VIN and serialized build plaque. More information about the Prima Edizione as well as ordering details will be available on a specific website – ciaofiat.com.
