Rome has signed on to be the first European city to welcome the FIA Formula E Championship in 2014, adding another city full of rich, storied automotive history to the series’ growing schedule.
McLaren is already established in Formula 1 racing, and now the British company has pledged to provide engines, electronics and transmissions to Spark Racing Technology for use in the upcoming Formula E championship series.
This year’s racing season surprised many when Toyota fielded a hybrid-powered Le Mans race car and Audi enjoyed immense success with its hybrid R18 e-tron quattro.
