Sometimes, it is not hard to improve on a product. We can’t imagine there were too many developers at Microsoft who said “No sir, we can’t improve on Windows ME.” Same can be said for the designers at Chevrolet.
Things most likely not heard around the office in the past three years “Nope. No way could we possibly make the Impala more stylish.”
So, it should come as no surprise that the 2014 Chevrolet Impala is better than the king-of-the-fleet-yard 2013 model. But even with such high expectations, the 2014 Impala still exceeded them; think 2000 New England Patriots vs. 2001 New England Patriots.
Certainly you have already checked out our 2014 Chevrolet Impala Review – Video first drive, but to ensure we weren’t swayed by the picturesque location, vast vehicular improvement and general awesomeness of the warm San Diego climate, we decided to take a second drive of the 2014 Impala. General Motors invited us up for a drive and to visit to its Oshawa, Canada assembly plant where the Impala, Regal, Camaro, XTS, Equinox and old Impala (Classic) are built. Even with a constant bombardment of rain and snow, the new Impala truly is the real deal in the full-size sedan market; here are five reasons why.
Even as General Motors readies their new Chevrolet Colorado mid-size pickup, Ford and Chrysler are hedging their bets that consumers won’t return to the floundering small truck market, and continue to opt for full-size pickups instead.
General Motors has claimed that the new Colorado will do most of what a full-size truck can do with substantially reduced running costs. GM’s strategy appears to hinge on rising gas prices and a general trend towards more fuel-efficient vehicles. On the opposite end, Ford is killing off its Ranger pickup entirely, and will offer a replacement in world markets, but not North America. Thailand will be a big market for the Ranger (it’s the world’s largest mid-size pickup nation) and much of the Colorado’s development work was done there.
Studies have shown that the current mid-size truck entries are actually costlier to own once depreciation is factored in. Fuel economy advances in the full-size segment, along with the macho image of a full-size truck have helped contribute to the demise of the mid-size pickup.
Chrysler, which recently killed off their Dakota mid-size pickup, is still exploring whether to bring a new smaller truck to market, with spokesman Dave Elshoff telling Automotive News “We believe there is still a substantial market for small pickups,.. “We’re studying the demographics and business case for a small Ram pickup

Lincoln sales have been slipping and so far are down 8 percent this year. The automaker has sped up redesign plans for the full-size MKS and three-row MKT as sales have dropped by 40 percent this year for the sedan, and 38 percent for the crossover. The redesigned MKS and MKT will debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November.
The redesign will also feature a technological overhaul. Lincoln is planning to introduce noise-canceling technology as well as upgrade the MyLincolnTouch system. Computer-adjustable steering and suspension capability is also a go ahead for Lincoln’s redesign.
Ford global product chief Derrick Kuzak said seven new Lincolns are on the way over the next few years. Lincoln will be taking pointers from the success of its MKZ Hybrid, introduced late last year, which experienced tremendous success because this car represented the first-ever entry-level luxury hybrid.
