It’s no real surprise, but automotive manufacturers are turning into incorporating apps into their infotainment systems and it appears that General Motors wants to be the first to trademark the words “App Shop” and “Appshop” for their Chevy MyLink system.

The filing for the trademark was described in the following way:

“Computer software to manage connectivity of downloaded software applications with motor land vehicle electric, information and entertainment systems.”

In addition to, “Online retail platform featuring computer software to manage connectivity of downloaded software applications with motor land vehicle electric, information and entertainment systems.”

The Chevy MyLink system is being incorporated in the 2012 Equinox, 2013 Malibu, Volt, Spark, and Sonic. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see a majority of automotive manufacturers to be employing an app store of some sort in their infotainment systems in the years to come, given how popular the word “apps” has become over the last few years.
