10. Kia "The Truth"

Top-10-Super-Bowl-Commercials

Depending on which team you were cheering for, the Super Bowl was a chance to exercise humility or an excuse to bury your head in the sand.

Regardless whether you were cheering for Denver, Seattle or the halftime show, the great advertising equalizer was there. Fans had the usual battery of multi million-dollar commercials to digest and as usual, automobile manufacturers brought the big ad guns out to play.

Kia’s K900 offers generous standard equipment, V8 power, rear wheel drive and a massive customizable gauge cluster. It could be one heck of a bargain alternative to “real” luxury sedans of similar size and strength if you can get past the idea of spending well over $60,000 on a Kia.

Super Bowl commercials carry controversy in the advertising world for being outrageously expensive with little potential to spur sales. Lawrence Fishburne singing might not get you to open your wallet, but it’s worth watching anyway.

#Winning

Sales Winners and Losers January 2014

Welcome to 2014! Apparently in Chinese Astrology it’s the year of the “wood horse” but let’s hope this timber pony can canter away and carry the auto industry to continuing sales success. Which brands drove away with buckets of cash and which ones took a tumble down the stairs? Let’s take a peek at last month’s showroom winners and losers.

Overall the market took a small slide in 2014’s first month. January’s inhospitable weather likely kept shoppers at home huddled in front of their heat registers instead of out and about shopping for cars. Compared to the same time period in 2013, new-vehicle deliveries declined three percent to a little more than one million units.

Sales moved in the wrong direction, though fortunately the decline wasn’t severe. Still, a number of automakers did post some welcome gains, though these were offset by others that dropped.

Win, Lose or Drive

December-2013-Sales-Winners-and-Losers-Main-Art

The numbers are in, figures tabulated and Champaign corks popped. It’s a brand-new year and 2013 is forever in the rear-view mirror. New-vehicle sales for December have finally been reported.

Overall deliveries were pretty flat across the board. Roughly 2,600 vehicles separate last month’s performance from the same period in 2012. Cold, snowy weather kept would-be buyers away from dealerships. Still, steady as she goes beats a big drop any day.

As for they the whole of 2013 things were considerably better. Sales were up about 8 percent compared to the year prior with deliveries falling just shy of 15.6 million units. That is a major victory for the automotive industry as it continues to recover from the great recession.

As for December’s numbers, here are the top sales winners and losers for the 12th month of last year. Naturally this list excludes brands like Maybach and Suzuki that have bowed out of the market.
