New York Knicks star basketball player and NBA sensation Jeremy Lin is reportedly in talks with Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co, the company which owns Volvo to appear in advertisments for the Swedish brands cars.

Bloomberg reports that three people who are close to the matter have revealed that Lin is being scouted by the Chinese for the ad deal. Volvo is looking to capitalize on the fan dubbed “Lin-sanity” that is sweeping the nation, and the world, and aims to use the star player’s name and popularity to endorse the brand. Volvo is looking to make fast inroads into the Chinese market, and having Lin on board would be a great help in doing so.

Kia has already proven the power of athletes in advertising with its string of commercials featuring L.A. Clippers player Blake Griffin.

When asked about the deal, Lin’s agent refused to comment and a spokesman from Zhejiang Geely was also tight lipped.

Lin blogs weekly in Mandarin and in English, and sports 2.4 million followers. This already gives him a great advantage, because with such a strong following, the man already has quite a bit of advertising power.
